Re: What are disk brakes worth?
I have a dropped solid axle in my 56 and just installed a CPP power front disc brake kit. The kit was $700

Sid's give $50 for a stock I beam axle as a core. If someone happens to be looking to upgrade their I beam, they MAY be willing to pay for one with the work already done. But; speaking for myself here, if it were me I'd feel uncertain about paying much because I'd wonder if the king pins had been replaced, or replaced properly? Are the discs nearing (at?) their minimum thickness? Were the calipers leaking and the seller just cleaned them up to sell? What I'm driving at is if the asking price were $400-$500 and I'd STILL have to consider all that? I'd rather just buy the parts and do my own conversion and have there be no question. |

Re: What are disk brakes worth?
I have about $1000 into my Sid's dropped axle and Speedway disc brake set up.
I would have gladly paid half of that for a used set up. |

Re: What are disk brakes worth?
I would think that asking half of what the new cost for the disk brakes and dropped axle if it is dropped would be pretty fair all around especially if the kingpins, brakes and bearings were all in good shape. You do want to give yourself a little room to bargain though. If you want five it's easier to start out at six and have that hundred dollar wiggle room. If the buyer rips his pocket off getting his wallet out at your original price you know it was too low. If it is priced too high no one will even try to bargain.
I'd like to find a complete AD front axle with six lug drum brakes here in the PNW that someone wanted to trade for something that I might have. I have another non truck project going that needs one and do have some trading material.

Re: What are disk brakes worth?
Ok so I got home pulled the axle and pulled a wheel of and this is what I found. Again this is not a for sale thread I am just trying to figure out what I got with the truck.
So now that we know what it is, what did the guy pay for it? I paid 1200 for the whole truck so I'm trying to see if it was worth it, which I think it was even with the garbage frame Posted via Mobile Device |

Looks trick. I have never seen that type of mounting bracket and top load caliper. The Wilwwods are cool.
