1964-1966 trucks - rear sway bars with coil springs?

Howdy folks,

I'm just curious about this and how it sets up on our trucks with the rear coil springs.

Do any of you have any experience with this?

Have any good links to tech articles or photos?

I'm just curious as to how it is setup and works with the coil springs and trailing arms.

Ah... it has brackets on the frame rail, then brackets/bolts on the trailing arm itself.

You're welcome. I just finished Sunday and left town. Haven't drove it yet to see the difference. Snow and ice since I've been home.

Would be very interested to hear some feedback on how the CPP bar works for you. I have the same bar, but have only mocked it up prior to stripping off the rear suspension (frame going out to be blasted and painted soon)

We chased down a rear sway bar from a 84 Camaro (junk yard) and flipped it upside down and backwards to work in our burb...works great and it was cheap!

RockTonka - I've read various mentions of using that era of rear sway bar on our trucks, but always wondered exactly how it attached.

That looks great. I didn't know you could use a camaro sway bar.

What is the diameter of the Camaro bar? I found one at the yard but it was very tiny. Did not measure but was less than 1".

7/8" on the rear swaybar, we have a 1 1/4" bar on the front from a dually...overall it feels very well balanced.

the camaro/firebird bars come in various diameters. I think they range between 15-24 mm (≈5/8 - ≈15/16) You don't need as big a bar on the rear as you do up front

I will be installing a 1" Camaro sway bar pretty soon. I will be mounting it underneath the axle instead of on top like RockTonka did. My truck is lowered.

Will come back and post pictures.

Woog, another member whose name I can't think of at the moment (imagine that), used the Camaro bar but moved it so that it attached to the trailing arms and frame sort of like the aftermarket one in the 1st response. I was thinking that the thread was in your faq section, but, again can't remember for sure

should be searchable cause I saw it not long ago (less than a year), I'll see if I can find it after I've had enough coffee

I just installed the bar from Brothers which is an Addco bar repackaged and is just like the CPP and POL bars. I chose it because they had it on sale for $100. The handling is much improved but I don't like the way it mounts below the trailing arms, makes it kinda stick out like a sore thumb from the side view. I really like the Camaro bar being tucked up above the trailing arms and out of sight.

I didn't have enough room to run a traditional sway bar, so I used a through-frame torsion bar...plus the tubular housing helped with mounting my fuel tank and electric pump.

Hotchkis Sport Suspension

They have some options for rear anti-sway setups... among other suspension components for our '63-'66 trucks.

They also have other options for the later model chevy trucks.

Anyone have more information to add to the pile?

Woog, those are some seriously nice options from Hotchkis, I dont know if my budget would allow but they are nice!

I like the Camaro, just for price and it seems to work for those that have it.

With the Camaro sway bar mounted like Rock Tonka did, I wonder if there is room to snake a pair of tailpipes past it?

I love the idea of using a factory Camaro bar, and the price is almost too cheap to pass on.

Yep, they are very nice... but more for folks that race on the touring type road courses I'm guessing. I just happened to come across them and saw that they had bits and pieces for our '63-'66 trucks.

Anything that is safe and works is the sort of thing that I am looking for in this thread.
