53 Chevy truck drivetrain ideas

I am installing a c4 front and rear suspension on my frame and am considering ideas for motor and tranny? I am wanting this truck to have some power but will drive it frequently. Thanks

Re: 53 Chevy truck drivetrain ideas

I'd sit down and write down the things you want on it and what you want to do with it.

And then figure out somewhat of a budget for it.

Trans choice: Automatic/manual. Then turbo 350/400 or overdrive. or three, four, five or six speed manual.

Being as you already went C-4 suspension I'm assuming that this isn't going to be a low budget build and you expect to have some good performance in the engine.

The 5.3 L a good choice for a great driving truck that you drive a lot.

An Lt-1 out of one of the GM performance buggies with matching trans would provide some good horsepower without killing the budget especially if you could get a complete good running wrecked or salvage donor rig to pull parts off.
Some of the big 90's sedans can be bought pretty inexpensively off car lots that think they are stuck with cars that are hard to sell. list of possible donors here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LT_engine You buy one, drive it, tune it and have it squared away before you pull it and sell off the leftovers.

Lots of other choices from the old basic 350/350 to a full on crate motor depending on what you want.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

After putting a 5.3 in my S10 I'll never go back to a carb motor. I had a cammed up 327 in it before and this motor is a lot more streetable plus has ALL the power I need.
