Why can't I find a nice aftermarket fender?

Why doesn't anyone make a driver's side stepper fender WITH square gas cover?

Checked Chris's site, he doesn't have them. Didn't know it was a hard find.

Any luck on CL or bone yard?

Re: Why can't I find a nice aftermarket fender?

I spent 6 months looking for an aftermarket fender with the square filler door option. They don't make it. Your only choice to keep it is a boneyard fender. Aftermarket companies say cut it out and roll lip in yourself...yea right. So, here is what I did. Quick, easy, looks great, and CHEAP.
Get a Perko vented fuel filler neck for a boat. Drill the hole with a standard door lockset holesaw. Screw neck to fender.... 10 minutes & $20 later you're Done. Cap is chrome ( dull spot is from flash on the camera)

So I guess I now know that at least one of my fenders is original...

Nice job on that filler neck..Kinda gives it older look like the earlier trucks.

I just find it hard to believe that there isn't enough of a market for repop'ers to make these.

I need a drivers side. I don't have any welding skills.

Re: Why can't I find a nice aftermarket fender?

Any opportunity to just eliminate the gas door/gas cap on the outside, and fill from inside the wheelhouse?

To me gas doors and caps have always been kind of a necessary eyesore anyway, and their elimination would be sort of a "custom" touch.

Well done. Just to expand on this idea a flip up style race cap might look spiffy, too.

I will keep a lookout for a nice OEM left fender with the door. I run into good sheetmetal all of the time.

Re: Why can't I find a nice aftermarket fender?

I cut a filler door out of a fleetside for my 79 and welded it in. took some work, but looks great. I know they used to repop that fender years ago for about twice the price as the other side. I have a filler door somewhere if your interested I would be willing to sell it
