50 front suspension upgrade for 3/4 ton

i want to upgrade my 50 3/4 ton to front disk brakes and independant suspension but keep the 8 lugs. i am going to use the origional rear axle. i am thinking of trying to use a 1 ton chevy van front crossmenber and narrow it. has anyone tryed this or heard of it being done. the other option is to get a suspention kit and try to upgrade it to the heaver control arms and spindles.
this truck actually belogs to my wife truck and she wants to drive it. anyone have any ideas to make this done easier?

Maybe see if you can find some 8-lug rotors that fit the hubs, and then make some new caliper brackets?

I saw a build where a fella used 70 C10 crossmember narrowed. I would imagine that the 3/4 ton would be the same crossmember.

Re: 50 front suspension upgrade for 3/4 ton

Interested in any advice here also as I'm in the same boat with a 50 3/4 ton pickup.

I'm not fussed about keeping the 8 lugs though and in fact if there is a way to convert over to 5 or 6 lug when converting to a disc set up, that would be fine.

Over her in Oz we don't seem to have the selection of donor vehicles generally that you guys in th US seem to have. A disc kit or even a front suspension, disc set up that you can buy off the shelf would be great but I'm not sure it exists for the 3600.

The search continues but any ideas would be very helpful.

Cheers.

You might dig through the 73-87 forum builds. A lot guys have narrowed the c-series crossmembers but i don't know of any vans that have been. There are a lot of places making narrowed c-series A arms, and many are vendors on here. However the costs of that needs evaluated in the overall scheme of things. Most narrowed arms are in 1K ballpark.

Re: 50 front suspension upgrade for 3/4 ton

i just clipped my '59 36 with a nova clip to get discs and power steering. no longer a 3/4 ton truck, but it won't ever haul anything anyways.

A van crossmember is even wider than a pickup crossmember.
