What year is my daughter's truck?

My daughter bought my brother's pickup from him. He swears up and down that it is an 1965 Chevy. He has even added a drivers door, hood, and grill from a 65'. Title wise it shows to be a 1960. The vin # on the title is 0C363K106750. I found another number on the frame 6Z107220. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

Its definitely not a 1960. I would say its between 64-66, but on the drivers side it has two different badges on it.. There was a different one for each year.

Drivers side of the frame just about even with the door, there will be the vin number stamped into the frame, see if it matches the registration, you will probably need sand paper to clean it to be able to read it.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

Ok, I was wrong in original post. The fenders, the drivers door and the grill came off of a for sure 65. I went back and looked on my facebook messages to see exactly what he said. Does that help any?

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

That is not a knee knocker cab my friend so it is definitely not a pre 1963. 1965 sounds about right. Is that cab and hood original? If so, they're both tell tale signs of being mid 60's. The 60-61 and some 62's had the "bug eye" hoods still. They were all gone by 1963. That cab is 64-66 for sure. The last year of the knee knocker trucks was 1963. Yours is not one. Hope this helps.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

it is definitely a 64, 65, or a 66 based on the windsheild being flat, not wraparound
the VIN will tell you, for 1964 the first digit in the VIN will be a 4, for the 65 or 66 the 5th digit in the VIN will be a 5 or a 6 respectively.
The VIn will be on the frame as noted in a previous post, and I can tell you that at least for the 66 there is a VIN plate on the cab, with the door open it would be riveted to the top of the door opening. Quite possible that these numbers don't match if it has ever been restored, or modified.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

I think that reverse lights were standard in '66? Optional in '65 and maybe '64? Like Rich was saying. Drivers side, top of frame, about even with the front of the engine. The #s are there. 60-63 had the "knee knocker" or dog leg at the sides of the windshield. Yours is definitely a '64-'66

The bed is a 66 with the reverse lights. Look at the VINs. That will answer all your questions. I tried to get this off LMC web site. Tells how to read your vin.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

yeah the 6Z107220 says the frame (and the rest of the truck except the vin plate) are 1966.

I have seen lots of spot welded vin tags, the original method of attachment and the placement let them get knocked off pretty easily. the spot welds held them on once they had been knocked off. someone probably had two trucks and one vin tag at some point.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

reverse lights became standard equipment in 66, but were an available option prior to that, so the fact that there are reverse lights doesn't really mean anything,

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

My guess: The body is a '64. Somebody changed out the cowl extensions to a pair from a '65. The VIN# is jiving with the year of the truck.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

I found some numbers on the side of the frame, not the top. Took pics of the numbers on the top of the frame by the engine. the last one is the vin tag off of the top of the drivers door frame.

I could be wrong, but I think the VIN tag is from a 1960 1 ton cab and chassis, built in Kansas City.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

I would suspect a vin tag swap happened at some time. 1960 vin on a 64-66 cab and a 66 frame.

Those don't look like original VIN rivets, either.

Vin plate switched for sure. Do you have a registration or pink slip that shows which vin# it's registered to?

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

Anything from 63 or earlier would have the wrap around windshield. Since it doesn't, then it's a 64, 65, or 66 cab. The cab might have 2 little holes at the top of the firewall for the tubing for windshield wiper fluid. See photo of my 66. I think that was only available in 66.

A 62 frame has a "V" reinforcement under the bed - see photo.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

I agree with these guys.

Someone has switched the VIN tag on the cab with one that they had a title for, which was a 1960 C30 cab and chassis with a 133" wheelbase.

The cab and the rest of the body is consistant with a '64-5-6 truck, and your frame is definitely a '66.

Hopefully your local DMV doesn't want to do a VIN inspection.......

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

Thank you for all the help. We live in Texas and hopefully as long as the truck stays titled in Texas we should be good. So, now I guess the new big question is: What year do we buy parts for? Are most parts interchangeable from the 64-66? I don't really want Britnie to have to have a henze 57 truck. She's young and not knowledgeable enough to keep track of what part belongs to what year.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

64-66 parts will fit your truck body & frame! But because go the vin swap, the first thing that needs to be bought is the registration and new tags! If that goes smooth then I would start the build process! You don't want to stray the build and not be able to title the truck!

The title is Texas. It had registration 2 years ago so I'm not gonna sweat that one. We just need to get it freshened up and she can be driving it to school after we get insurance and registration for it.

Re: What year is my daughter's truck?

Before it's done, you will likely have parts from different years of trucks or cars. It is very simple to keep track of. Just make a master list in a notebook.
