Filler is under a flip-open board in the bed, still need to bedline it all.

Re: Show your fuel door in the bed of your stepper

Here’s how I did mine the first time. It was hidden under the rear fender and capped off inside the bed as high up as I could get on the sidewall. This allowed filling even with the bed loaded. I goofed up on the tank entry however and made a sharp elbow which kicked back the fuel, requiring a dead slow fill rate:

Exhaust tubing connected the pieces and was hidden under the rear fender. It would have worked perfectly had I entered the side of the tank, or used a baloney slice entry on top of the tank:

Since this was my daily driver and we live 36 miles from town, I couldn’t pull the tank and have it modified by a radiator shop, so I installed an aircraft cap in the floor instead. I mounted it in the left rear corner so it would be easy to reach at the gas pump:

I did this at home over the weekend by pulling the tank, filling with water, cutting the hole, draining/drying the tank, and reassembling. It was back on the road in time for work on Monday. This type of cap came with a threaded steel C ring that slipped through the opening into the tank, giving the cap housing something to screw into. My son fabricated the outer ring purely for cosmetics to cover the flange of wood showing under the diamond plate.

Love these keep em coming. I am thinking of trying to fab a door into the rear of the driver fender. or just over the step.

Not mine but this is what I am going to do when I get around to installing an under bed fuel tank.

I posted similar on 67-72 side too since those guys have the same problem with this as we do.

Have it hidden like... like the old 50's cars with the fuel cap inside the rear tail light housing.

I like this idea. I want it hidden too. Even thought about trying to come out the back of the bed roll on top of the bed.

Thanks. This is one of the main thoughts I had. Not sure my fab skills are up for the challenge though.

Cool idea. Can you give us more details like how you ran the filler neck?
