New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Hey all, It is starting!! I have a guy putting the engine in with Dirty Dingo mounts, then I will transport back to my house for the rest. I will be sending my harness off to 150tunes.com for re-work and have a local guy tune when all is in. Question: For people who have done this with the 6L80e, how did you hook up the shift link???????? I know $h!t about this so be kind!! Stand by for loads of questions!! Ben |

Well, engine and trans will be in on Wednesday and I will post pics then.
I have a question on the O2 sensors, I just need the two that go in the exhaust right? The place I bought the engine from didn't provide them!! |

So did you have to shorten the drive shaft to fit the 6l80?

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
I think I will, it looks close but the slip yoke is longer than the TH350, shortening is way better than buying a new one!! I also had to mod the cross member some for height of 6l80. Posted via Mobile Device |

That's the hose that came with the engine. There is a couple of things I need to figure out on it.

He all, sorry I have not posted latey here is the update so far.
Been going slow on the build. Still waiting for my harness to come back, got the old DS fuel tank out and have the new one already at the house getting ready to go in. http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/w...C242/gas1.jpeg I installed a shift link from shiftworks but the trans feels sloppy and loose, anyone have any ideas? I also can't get it to shift into M mode?? |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Hey all, been waiting on my harness for 2 months and it will finally be here the end of next week so I can kick this in high gear. Question:
Do I need the breather hose can I cap it off some how? Also, does anyone know how to take off the back cover that is attached to the intake? I have a long weekend so I will be getting a lot done and will post more. |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
This is going to be a nice build. You can get a custom rad to move the top neck to the pass. side.
Most people just run an aftermarket catch can for the PVC system. You can pic them up pretty cheap. |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Could someone tell me what these are? They are located on the back side of the 327 that I just swapped out for 5.3 and I am trying to figure the wiring out as the person I had swap the engines didn't label them....so pissed right now!!
I thought one of the above was for the engine temp but then I saw this on the drivers side of the engine. Now I think that is for the temp?? Please help this lost soul!! |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
The second picture is the engine temp, and the large one by the distributor is for the oil pressure.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Yep. By the dist, th elarge one is the oil pressure sending unit, and the small one is for an idiot light. The one on the head is the water temperature sending unit.

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Hey all, been a long time since I have updated this. Here are some pics of the progress.
Got the new tank installed Engine wired up to test starts and this is what happened first http://s735.photobucket.com/user/BC2..._1197.mp4.html Then I got it to finally stay started and drove around a little http://s735.photobucket.com/user/BC2..._1202.mp4.html But then it went back into limp mode. I couldn't drive it much as it wasn't running great. I don't know what the problem could be? I do have a few question. There is a wire on the harness that says break wire, do I need this to run the vehicle? Also, my breaks are really bad even with the vacuum attached any ideas, probably because of the wire??? They feel like mush. Also, there is a ton of lag when I try to drive it, I hit the gas and the tranny will finally engage once the RPM’s are up and move the truck, I don't get it. Also, for the cooling fans, I should be able to just use a 30 amp relay to run them correct?? Thanks for any and all help! |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Ahhhhhh, thanks for the info ghetto, very valuable info for me. Also, I received a text form the person who tuned my PCM and he stated eh did the following:
Alright well to answer your questions, I disabled vats, disabled starter fault checks, changed the rev limiter to 6800, disabled flex fuel, increased power enrichment ramp in, took out power enrichment delay, disabled cat over temp, disabled displacement on demand, decreased IAT and ECT spark advance correction, maxed out all torque vs. rpm tables, turned off brake torque limit, disabled tip in ETC limit, disabled all traction control settings, disabled catalyst test, switched fuel pump control module equipped" to "no", and turned off all the speed limiters. I asked him about the rear O2 sensors and he stated he did not delete them and that it would have no effect on how the engine would run. How does this look to all who have done this? |

Re: New Build 5.3 w/6L80e into a 1986
Just a quick update, I hooked up a puel pressure gauge and i am getting around 55 psi at the rail and the intake is sucking good. This weekend I will finally be able to double check all wiring and see what happens. I will keep posted!
