Gastank conversion fron intank pump to mechanical, on engine pump
I hesitate to even ask, but I think I have seen some reference to this in sombodies build thread. Im using a 1984 Carberated 305 with a mechanical on-engine fuel pump on my build. The guy who owned my 94 S10 Chassis before I got it, removed the in-tank pump and left me with just a shell with no inlets or lid, etc. I Know I could replace all that, but I would like to use the mechanical pump. Does any body have info on how to convert the 94 S10 gas tank to allow me to do this??? I.E. creating a pick up system with Screen etc. Do most gas tanks have the same type of lid, etc to where I could slap an older "pick up style" lid on it?
Thanks in advance

Measure the diameter. I have a gas pickup out of a 78 chevy pickup, and I was about to throw it away.
It's yours for the shipping if the diameter is the same. hillenger512@cox.net Last edited by Coupeguy2001; 07-04-2013 at 01:41 PM. |

Shouldn't be a big deal. In '94 the fuel pump was separate from the sending unit. So you could buy a sender and use a short piece of steel tubing in place of the fuel pump. They still sell fuel tank socks for carb applications so there's no trouble getting the strainer.

Coupeguy thaks for the offer on the 78 pick up but, 1project2many's solution sounds like the easiest.

Re: Gastank conversion fron intank pump to mechanical, on engine pump
You might look at a sending unit off an 82/84 S-10 with a carburetored V6 that had a mechanical pump.
Something like what Coupeguy2001 offered may actually work better though if the height of the float is right because it only has two lines running to it. The pickup line and the return line.
