sm465 flywheel question?
Im building an 86 K1500, but I got a 79 K10 stepside given to me for parts back in the winter. Stripped the body off the frame, built the frame, kept the drive line.
350 4bbl 4 bolt, sm465... motor Is seized solid. So I have an old tbi 305 in my shed that ran great when pulled. so heres my Question: Will a 79 350 flywheel bolt up to a 1988 305 TBI crankshaft??

Re: sm465 flywheel question?
okay... would a flywheel from a 1987 sm465 work with a 79 sm465? or would i be better off to use an earlier motor?

Here are some AC Delco part numbers 1979 > manual flywheel 388001 1987 > manual flywheel 388004 I think its more than just bolt patterns , center hub bore diameter is different. New stuff is no that expensive. Desert |

Re: sm465 flywheel question?
More than that. ^^
You've gotta be careful to mate the right flywheel and harmonic balancer to your motor. There were internal and external balance small-blocks. I believe the 400SBC was external balance and some of the one-piece rear main seal 86+ 5.0L-5.7L motors were as well. The older two-piece rear main seal 305-350 are usually internal balance. The 5.7L, 6.2L, & 6.5L diesels were external balance. The 5.7L Olds Diesel never came with a stick in this country. I don't do big blocks so I'm not sure on those.
