Exclamation 5.3with small block engine supports

Hi, I am trying to use the engine supports that came with with 68 suburban when I bought it. It had a V8 on it, I am swaping it with a 5.3 Vortec, but it apparars that they do not line up with the holes on the, I can line up the one on the passenger side, but the one in the driver side does not line up, you cna see on the pictures below. Has anyone use them before, and if you had, did you had any issues with them. I might have to buy the motor mounts from CPP, I used them before in a 66 truck.

Thanks

Re: 5.3with small block engine supports

I made sure the engine was more or less square, then drilled new holes for the bolts on the perch, then bolted the mount to that.

I went as far as welding the tabs of the engine stands in place; it makes the engine a big tricky to get out because of the angle the botls need to go, but strength isn't a concern.

Re: 5.3with small block engine supports

Thanks guys, what I was trying to do was to use the existing engine supports but I can not get them to line up with the hole in the motor mount, if I bolt one side, the other motor mount is a littlt bit higher.

Thanks

Re: 5.3with small block engine supports

Looking at the pics, you have the conversion brackets on the block....which set(brand) did you use? I have seen this problem, with stock replacement mounts....even with the genI engine! This is due to the fact that the replacement mounts are floated in on a boat, & are not consistant. What I do on any swap, is to drill the mounting hole in the stand (1 ea side ,to 5/8"), to make up for misalignment on the threaded holes in the rubber mount. Another trick that works, is to loosen the stands from the frame....you will find that there is a little room to move the stands around a tad Just get the stands to "snug up" to the mount, then set the eng, stands & all down to the frame....center, & 'bubble" level & bolt it down. Hope that helps....Longhorn

Re: 5.3with small block engine supports

Thanks for all your help, I will try to do that crazy longhorn. I have the TransAdapt plates, I use the towers from CPP on my last swap, this time I was just trying to see if the original towers will work.

Thanks

Re: 5.3with small block engine supports

Let us know how she goes/ I have the Carshop inc plates for my swap, & they look to be close to what you have. The heads are in the shop, for my 5.3.... so I cant tell yet how it comes out? The thing I see (pics are deceiving), is that you don't have a for/aft issue, but more of a "pinch" issue? As said, I have seen a STOCK engine, in STOCK spot, be an issue , just swapping the mounts! Post any knowledge that you have on the fit....you might help this old man a tad Best of fun, longhorn
