Is it a "good" project?
Hey guys,
I came across this truck, and am considering possibly purchasing it. The guy said he had another offer for $900, but the guy has never come to pick it up. I was wondering what your opinion is on the truck? I believe it is a '63, has an inline 6 that is not running (would be swapped for a SBC or BBC anyway), body is evidently quite banged up, but current owner says there is no straight through cancer on it. Is it worth it for the $900? Or what would you offer the guy? Constructive suggestions welcomed

Its a bit banged up. But if the frame, front and rear, is straight and the body mounts ain't rotted thru, I'd pay $900 for a good project truck.
Might check for more hidden bullet holes though. Them in the windshield are gonna cost ya $300 right out the gate. |

My inclination, with all the body damage, would be driveline, suspension and interior. Leave the dents and such alone and drive the snot outta it.

It was blue before it was orange. Hood is so far gone I'd realign it and leave it as is, part of the survivor look. Make a fine looking daily driver that ya can haul stuff in and not worry with scratches. $5K to $8K oughta get ya perfect reliability, bed, safe suspension and decent interior.

$800 26 years ago. Like my buddy who works in a body shop says, replace every panel and you have a nice truck. Hard to believe there's no rust through. A lot of good parts on it though.

I am not a body man and would have to pay someone for the body work. That in itself wouldn't make it worth it for me. If you do your own body work and there's minimal rust, then $900 for a solid truck could be a good deal. I've seen some amazing work coming out of folks home garages on this forum.....

I wouldnt pay more than scrap for that truck honestly. I would be willing to bet money there is rust. Someone has filled it with filler and painted it. I recently picked up a 64 short stepside with big back window, 100% complete truck for $800. Its not perfect but waaaay better than that one. If I was you I'd keep looking, or come buy the '64 short stepside I have haha

 !!!! Not worth $900 at all! The truck will cost you way more than that in just body repairs! If your gonna buy it I would say $300, but NOT $900. That would be a lose/win situation. My 64 which is in way better shape(No dents a or cancer and runs) is worth maybe $1,200. I would wave $300 cash and tell him you will pick it up and see what he ses. $900 is alot for something that's gonna cost you more in body repairs!

Offer him $400 at the most cause it's non running there maybe $400-$500 worth of parts on it. The hood is beyond help and the rest of the sheet metal is very wavy at best so there is a lot of work there. Not worth $900 he's asking or was offered, give him your phone# and your offer and go look elsewhere you just might get lucky or luckier..Vernski

I like a beat truck just fine, but that thing is a pile. About the only thing I see on the entire truck worth more than scrap is the original and hard to find gas cap. Ok, maybe the grill too. I say don't do it.

I would pass. If it ran good and all the mechanicals were perfect maybe $700 for a dump run truck.

It looks like someone beat every panel on it with a sledge hammer. I say pass seeing how it doesn't even run. Maybe worth $300 just for parts.

I have one of those OEM gas caps if somebody is needing one to complete a project. They were painted the same color as the body originally. I will not be using it. I have gone to a locking gas cap. I see around $500 in parts and if it had a clean title...about what I'd pay for it. If it runs/drives fine maybe a little more. Definitely looks like a 63 though.

off set mirror heads have the mounting stud on the edge of the mirror and are original. they are getting harder to come by. all of the reproductions have center mount studs

I would not waste my time on it...I don't see one panel on it without damage. After you fight all the rusty old bolts and your time trying to part it in my option its not time well spent Plus you have to get rid of what's left over.... leave it for someone to pick parts off themselves...save your $$$$$
