Re: Motor is painted and ready
Very nice! I'm concerned that the oil filler tube and breather in your intake manifold may not be sufficient for venting the crankcase. It may blow oil all over your motor.
Like you, I have been thinking about disguising a later model engine into my truck and using the "Chevrolet" scripted valve covers. Since you obviously can't use breathers or PCV with those valve covers, I've wondered if there is a way to drill a hole in the rear of the engine block, above the bellhousing flange, and install some sort of road draft tube like the older, original engines used. But your engine looks great. Very cool idea. And it may work just fine with just the one vent. |

What color paint did you use, if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Motor is painted and ready
I'm in the exact same boat. Mine is a 283 with 305 heads, I found I was missing the vent canister that goes in the valley under the intake. Of course I found this out after I set the intake. |

New Ford Gray Ceramic Paint from PepBoys...
Now for the Breather. Jegs has a bulkhead Rocker Cover breather with Baffel JEGS Performance Products 50128 Valve Cover Breather Baffle. Drill a hole in the back of a valve cover, attach an angled pcv and run a hose to the intake. I'll post pics after the motors in. |

Re: Motor is painted and ready
Why don't you just make a flat bracket that bolts to the bell and the motor mount with the ball on it. Better than possibly ventillating your block down in that critical area by the filter.
Kinda like this. http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/foru...ad.php?t=20492 Last edited by geezer#99; 09-06-2013 at 06:34 PM. |

Re: Motor is painted and ready
First off, beautiful engine & truck! As for the valve cover dilemma, here's a similar set of valve covers that Delmo modified. Dino did something similar on his latest bagged blue '66 short/fleet, except the breather/PCV hole is on the back of the cover.

Very nice work...those engines look great. Here is my work in progress...finished the bypass system for the heads...hopeing to plumb the fuel lines this weekend. I like the breather adapter above for the valve covers...think ill look into them myself.
