4 speed in my CCSB
I'm swap'n out the old one ton trans that came in the truck and came across this one, does any body recognize what it is ?

it had the stock trans with granny gear, I'm want'n to put a standard 4 speed in it now but I got no idea what to look for. the trans in the picture was give'n to me to try.

So you're wanting to put that one in? Not sure that is a hot idea. 1 ton's are heavy and the sag 4 speed isn't exactly ideal for weight... Plus if you tow 'foget about it. If it's been upgraded, heavily, it might make it... Might...

yeah looks like a 3.11 first saggy...
kinda like the one in my truck... tho mine isn't a one ton and it's meant to do burnouts to keep the trans alive..

I wasn't clear on this, the truck was a 1ton but is a 1/2 CreweCab Short Bed.
I was gonna convert to an Auto trans but figure'd a 4 speed would be cool in it. It has the peddle and big hole in the floor already so,,,,,,,,,,,,,, .

THe big hole in the floor won't help you. The shifter handle will be right under the front of the seat. The sag will live behind a bigbolck if you drive it like it has an egg under the gas pedal. Put an automatic in it with a tall Lokar shifter in it.

why would it be under the seat?
you can run it.. but to live in a heavy truck like that it needs some gears.. like 3.42's.. maybe higher depending on tire.. and i wouldnt exactly abuse it unless you know the tires will spin... also keep a spare!

What manual trans would be a good substitute for this saginaw? I'm thinking about putting one behind a big block too and I don't want the granny 4-speed. Big power though, 500/560 and a 3.73 posi. Tires boil easily. No towing.

A m22 is a great trans but its loud they whine no overdrive and today people think they are made out of gold price wise.With gas prices slowly climbing up a overdrive gear is a must even with something high powered.

The m21y could be called a overdrive with a .859 gear but its more for road racing not the streets.A street overdrive is .75 or less a tko600 has a overdrive of .64 a t65 depending what its from is .50 to .63.

my truck just has a stock (tire'd) 350, 1/2 ton with a 31" rear tire and 3.73 gears. it will just get limit'd daily driver use.
I have this Saginaw trans and could exchange it for a Muncie if need be,,I think my trouble now will be come'n up with a shifter with out buy'n a new one. Moma said I'm over budget already and she want's to drive it soon !

That is a Muncie but just the casting numbers isn't a sure fire way to identify which one. It's most likely an m21 none of these transmissions are great for dumping the clutches. The Muncie will take power shifting but not a lot. The iron midplates from AGE help support that an are a great upgrade regardless of use since the aluminum mid plates wear
Pull the side cover and give it a good inspection. The shift forks and syncros and side cover holes for the shift pins. All normal wear and tear stuff. These boxes are 40+ years old anymore Posted via Mobile Device
