Accessory drive question

What factory accessory drive set up fits best? I purchased my LS1 as a long block so Im going to have to do some junk yard searching so I wanted to verify whether the truck, Camaro/GTO, or Corvette accessory drive fits best for a 72 C20. Im also going to be running a Vintage AC system so Im going to need to purchase the appropriate adapter bracket for the compressor based on what accessory drive set up I run.

It mainly depends on which intake you plan to use. The truck accessory drive systems are the most plentiful and easy to find. They also use a Saginaw power steering pump which is easily adaptable to run with the stock steering box. The biggest issue with them, though, is the idler pulley interferes with the intake ducting on Camaro/Vette intakes. This is easily remedied with an idler relocator. At this time, I can't remember who makes/sells them.

The F-body, Corvette, GTO, and CTS-V systems are harder to come by in junkyards, but can be found in the classifieds section at www.ls1tech.com.

Keep in mind that each system uses different balancer pulleys, so if you get something from a junkyard, be sure to get everything from the front of the engine. The balancers require a special puller, so if you don't have one, getting a previously removed used, or even a new balancer may be easier.

As for which one fits best, well, they all fit inside our trucks just fine. The only major modification will be adapting or making power steering lines and possible frame notching for the low mounted a/c setups.

Dirty Dingo and Holley make some nice a/c compressor brackets that relocate them to the top, though.

Thanks for the info, I'm running a carb so the intake clearance isn't an issue. I'm also running vintage AC so Im going to need an adapter for the compressor regardless. Good info on the power steering pump.

That's the cool thing about their brackets, you can buy the spacer to match whatever waterpump/crank damper you have. Check out their website/install manual:
