ls swap questions

Im about to do a ls swap in a 1971 gmc k25. Ive got a lq4 6.0/4l80e out of a 2005 2500hd. I want to use the 205 that came with the truck and keep factory air.

Questions:
  • Can I run my factory speedometer off of my t case and not use the vss adapter?
  • What does everyone do for a steering column? Look for a stock one with the indicator on top?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Hot-Rod-...4e3022&vxp=mtr

Would something like this work? How long would I need?
  • What kind of shift linkage since my trucks a stick?
  • Whose the right person to send my harness/computer too?
  • Is there an ac compressor relocate that uses the stock compressor?
  • From what Ive read i'll have to do some fab work to make my motor mounts work and to make the cross member work. What about exhaust? Can I somehow get away with using stock 2005 truck manifolds?
  • Is a blazer gas tank a good choice? I want to take the stock one out of the cab.
  • What fuel pump?

Theres a ton of other questions I forgot, I'll update when they come to mine.

Thanks in advance!

Nick

Re: ls swap questions

Some of these, I'm also looking for an answer on. I'll get the ones I know.

I'm using the stock piece; it clears everything just fine. But I'm also using a TH350 transmission.

The outlets don't clear the frame all that well, unless you notch the frame rails (probably a bad idea) or mount the engine unusually high. 2010-up Camaro manifolds or Trailblazer SS manifolds are a better fit, and not terribly expensive.

You'll have to fabricate a filler neck setup, and I believe they also go where the spare tire goes. Right now I'm using the stock tank myself, although I may go for something underneath the truck sooner or later.

How much horsepower do you want? I'm using a Walbro 255 lph pump, which should be good for a relatively stock motor.

Re: ls swap questions

Im not running a vss and using a 205 and stock speedo. I used an in tank pump 2003 silverado pump, with my blazer tank, if you decide to go that route keep the stock fuel sender for your factory gauge. Check out dirty dingo for ac brackets.

Re: ls swap questions

I'm using sanderson tight tuck nova application headers in my 68 5.3 swap. They exit pointing back and down at about a 45 degree angle, 3 bolt collector about 6" behind back of engine.
