From bc eh!!
Might be a crate. Any other numbers/letters on the pad? Casting number is behind the drivers side head. Head casting numbers under the valve covers. Engine build date behind pass side head. |

Re: engine ID 1966 Custom Camper
As far as i know that is called a "suffix code". They are stamped in, not cast. They refer to the application, i.e. car, truck. I think part of the numbers are from the trucks vin. There isnt a whole lot of info out there for trucks, but there is for car. I havent tried to track my 327 numbers to the frame as its stored in the back of the shop under a mountain of stuff. Lots of times, machine shops mill the deck and dont re-stamp them back. So your block may not have ever been torn down. Google "sbc suffix code" Block casting numbers are on the surface behind the drivers side head. 60-66 is correct in his number being a 327.

Re: engine ID 1966 Custom Camper
I miss read that rideblue00 , thought he was talking about and it looked more like a casting number . As for the VIN , Ive never seen a VIN on these early engines for trucks or Impalas. I know Corvette used VINs in their small blocks in the 60-66 era. Heres a couple pictures for reference from a few of my 66 327s.

Re: engine ID 1966 Custom Camper
Ill have to dig out my 327 and see what is stamped on it. Looks like the F and the Y are significant. Hmmm
