55 chevy second series 3100

This may be a stupid question. but why are there so many holes in my 55 Chevy 3100 frame. I'm sure I don't need all of them but there are so many it would take forever to fill them, so I just left them and painted the frame with zero rust.

Not a stupid question, I'd be intersted to know too.
Were they holes that were used during manufacture or are they holes for required for mounting points on various models / option levels?

I don't know why there are so many holes in the frame, but the same applies to the firewall and the trucks overall, in my opinion.

What the HELL was it with guys over the dcades with these trucks? Geez, it's like they has Tourette's Syndrome with a drill motor in their hands!

Re: 55 chevy second series 3100

I came across and old guy when I was working on my frame and he use to work in one of the assembly plants and he told me that they were there for the frame jig at the plant to align and hold all the parts prior to the riviting, also to move the frame around after. Not sure if he was feeding me a load of crap but it made sence.

As for the fire wall, I agree! mine looked like swiss cheese with a new hole for every wire that needed to be run

Re: 55 chevy second series 3100

I filled all my firewall holes with weld and filled with filler. it was a chore.I have all that done. In the rear of the frame on the left side looks like Swiss cheese. I cant believe they could have so many holes. I didn't fill them Hope it wont weaken the frame.
