Need some thoughts!
Thinking about putting a 6.6L DURAMAX swap in with a Allison 1000 trans in my 72 k5. Anyone know of anyone who has done this or has any input that would be helpful. ty

Re: Need some thoughts!
I dont understand what the purpose would be. The Duramax is designed for torque and hauling heavy loads. Something limited by the frame of a 1st gen Blazer. Somebody on here used a cut down late model frame with a Duramax/Allison that could allow the Duramax to be used as intended. In my opinion, a Duramax would be a novelty only, and an LS swap would be more practical and useful.

Re: Need some thoughts!
I think It would be bad a$$ seeing a first gen smoke like a freight train when you stand on it and pour the coal to it. I would probably build a custom frame that would be all boxed in and plated good for that much weight and torque. I say go for it....

Re: Need some thoughts!
Weight of Duramax and Allison = 1400lbs! Yikes!
Dont get me wrong, I love my Duramax... In my 3/4 ton GMC. Just think its Waayy to big and heavy for a little Blazer. |

Re: Need some thoughts!
4bt would be an easier swap, 6bt has been done many times. plenty of build threads on this board about it. I would say that the duramax and the allison weighing a lot does not hurts the performance...

Re: Need some thoughts!
That's awesome. Totally killed that Stang. Lol. Seems like it would be cool to see a newer diesel in a first gen. That truck is pretty cool.
