Rear Wheel Size

I'm working on a 1965 Chevy c10 however have a later model rear end with a width of 64 inches mounting plate to mounting plate. I was Planning on putting 18x9.5 with a 275 tire and the rim has a 5 inch back space. When i was putting the car together i tried the front wheel and tire which is a 18x8 with 255 and a 4.5 inch back space on the rear end and with the fender on there was only about an inch of clearance from the end of the tire to the fender. I do not want to modify the fender so does anyone know if the 18x9.5 with a 275 tire would have any clearance or would i have to use the same size as the front?

If your using the stock rear suspension, bear in mind as it travels up & down the track bar will cause it to move the rear axle side to side up to a 1/4". Don't forget about the tire flexing during cornering.

As I recall the rear wheel opening is about the same size as the front. So a larger diameter tire in the rear would make it look stuffed.

What tire size are you running on the front ? 255/60R18 ?

Running the same size wheel and tire combo F & R allows you to rotate the tires.

255/55/r18 the rear end i think is from an 88-92 chevy c10 it was on the truck when i bought it

If you want to have a big / little combo you could use 255/60Rx18 on the rear.

If your looking for the Fat rear tire the 275/50Rx18 on a 9" rim would be about as large as you could go BUT the backspace would be critical and you may have to roll the fender lip.

Looking again at your pic, the 275 may be to big for comfort. Don't forget the inner fender clearance also.

The Boss 338 next size up is 9.5 I think I will just have to go with same size as up front. The 8 inch have 4.5 backspace with a +2 offset 9.5 has a5 inch backspace with a -4 offset

I run a 295/45/18 with no problems. I believe 4.5 backspace 18x9.5 rear. 1970 12 bolt.

Do you know the width of your rear axle mine is about 64 inch to the outside of the drums

Another variable to keep in mind is that the rear axle is not centered on the wheel well opening. We are running a 275/70/r17 on the rear and we are going to have to move the rear axle back about 1.5" to keep the front inner lip from eating up the edge of the tire. The more you drop your truck in the rear the more chance you have of hitting that front lip due to the increase in diameter...........food for thought. Kieth

I had this same problem when I dropped the rear of my truck. My 17's would hit the front lip.

you mentioned moving the rear axle back to accommodate for a larger tire ???? any simple answers for doing this ??? "ANYONE" ??? I am running a 4" drop ,,,, but want all the tire (18") tire that I can get ?? THANKS in advance
