1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
1965 chevy K10 long bed 4x4. Will power steering from a 1965 C10 fit the K10?
Is it direct bolt up, or are mods, or additional parts needed? Is better to use the newer style power steering from a late 1966 or newer truck? Les |

Best bet is to find a pwr steering gear box of a 1974-84 model truck and modify.

Re: 1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
Mitch,
I am new to these trucks and; Just to clarify: I was thinking the 65' power steering is a ram rod set-up, vs the later units that had the assist in the steering box, starting around late 66'. So you are saying a two wheel drive unit will not work on a four wheel drive steering linkage e.g. The 65' four wheel drive power steering is different. And that later units are easier to modify to work. Thanks Les |

Re: 1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
You have a valid question.
At first I thought you were asking about the power steering upgrade as most do with the 73-87 box. But you actually have Factory Power Assist Steering. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=561381 So in your case, the actual steering box may be the same. Good question. Hopefully someone knows the answer.

Re: 1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
No, Your question was if it was a direct bolt on. And it's not, it'll take modifications due to the steering gear box mount. The K model steering boxes are not the same as the C models. Also the pitman arms are different, so connecting to your linkage will be different angles. So if your gonna change, it's best to just go with a newer model setup. Get the complete setup from a newer model donor for less hassels, finding / modifing parts and pieces to fit.
Also, trying to find 64-66 K10 power steering will be difficult as well as expensive, if you can find any worth rebuilding. One other suggestion would be to PM CaptainFab. I know he was working on some pre-fabbed K10 power steering mounts. He should be able to help get a parts list together for you.

Re: 1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
The factory power assist steering used on the '60-'67 'C' series trucks will not work on a 'K' series truck. Totally different steering assembly.
The '68-'87 'C' series integral power steering boxes are the same as the '68-'87 'K' series steering boxes except for the sector shaft (output shaft). The casting itself and most of the internals are the same and are interchangeable. With that said, if you want to add power steering to your '65 K10, you will need a power steering box from a '68-'87 'K' series truck, Suburban or Blazer. You will also need an adapter plate to mount it to the frame, plus a power steering pump, brackets, pulleys and hoses for the particular engine in your truck.

Re: 1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
I put p/s on my k61 using Captain's plate. it's a little different than a c-10 install. you also need to shorten the steering arm 1 3/4" and i used a skyjacker dropped pitman arm. probably get buy without it, just makes it a little more level.
some info in the facts section--can post pics if anybody is interested, and some part #

Re: 1965 Power Steering C10 to K10??
Question, according to the Chevrolet parts books 4x4 factory slave cylinder power steering was available in 1967. Ive bought a few NOS parts over the years for one of these setups but am still missing some main parts. Anyone ever seen or have a complete setup ? Years ago on EBay there was a 1966 GMC 4x4 with slave cylinder PS... just to keep ya thinkin
