shoulder belt in 66

Can shoulder belts be put in a 66 chevy truck correctly meaning they would work in a crash? Mine does not have any holes where the shoulder belt would mount. I was thinking about drilling a hole and using a bolt and large washer but not sure. What to you guys think?

I think their good if you use them for a daily driver. I'm looking at new lap belts right now for my weekend truck. Good thread here in the FAQ's on seat belts. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=413117&page=2

I don't think the shoulder belt would work just bolting it to the sheet metal. It could pull out with the force of an accident without reinforcing in some way.

Yes you can. For example, the Juliano's shoulder belts come with a shouldered attachment bolt and a nut that is welded to a 4 inch long piece of steel flat stock which is meant to go behind and serve as reinforcement for the sheet metal cab wall.

For the reinforcement plates, check out what Brad did on his truck:

Check out post# 303. You could easily make these with a piece of flat steel and a nut if you didn't want to buy them.

Re: shoulder belt in 66

Thanks guys THAT is what I was looking for. I am thinking about making my 66 a driver and letting my son drive it to school next year but wanted a good 3 point seat belt. It looks like what brad did will work and be safe.
