Need some help diagnosing my problem
folks,
I just rewired my 63 C10 with an american autowire kit. installed a new turn signal switch and upper bearing. the autowire kit is awesome and everything worked as planned. Been driving it for a couple months with no issues. I found a stock steering wheel and decided to replace the grant cheapy wheel that it came with. I got all the reproduction horn parts and proceeded to attempt the install this weekend. Didn't really go well. Not sure if the repro parts are not correct, but couldn't get it to the point where the horn button would have any movement. Eventually gave up and pulled out the horn contact. Went to start the truck and no spark and the turn signals are now wonky. Right works okay but left runs both right and left. Neither work with the brake pedal under pressure. all fuses test good Pulled the steering wheel again and pulled out the turn signal switch. No pinched wires or other signs of damage. the only new things are the turn signal cancel cam and a botched horn install. Checked power to the HEI distributor - shows 12 volts but ranges all over the place with ignition on. still no spark though. Pretty frustrated...any ideas? |

Re: Need some help diagnosing my problem
You may have shorted out the horn relay. The horn relay send power to different places on these trucks. I would go check mine, but the wiring has been altered for a long time. Someone here has a diagram I'm sure. I haven't been on here much lately. As far as the turn signals go, check the signal switch itself. They have some little fingers in there that send power to the different lights. If they get bent just a little, they can act weird. I had one that would light up the front driver side turn signal when I hit the brake pedal. I hope this helps---Jeff

Re: Need some help diagnosing my problem
I replaced my turn switch. Auto wire also, the new one came with hazard switch capabilities. So I took apart the new one and the old one The pins inside are set up differently. I bent the pins inside the new switch to match the old ones it worked fine afterward. You may also be able to just switch the pins. Basically a contact issue when turning the switch to left or right . Hope this helps make sure everything is grounded good

Re: Need some help diagnosing my problem
Look at your wiring diagram that came with the AAW kit. It should tell you what is up in the column. Should not be related to the no start issue. To do a quick test run a jumper wire from the battery to the hot side of your hei. Spin the motor over with the key and it should light. If not you may have a hei issue. Nothing in the column is tied to the start run on these trucks.
