Question about 1966 Vin code identification

I have a 1966 Fleetside, but the Vin code number does not seem to indicate the Fleetside pickup according to the Vin code identification guide in the Factory Assembly Manual.
My vin code is C1546S198235, but the "4" in the vin code indicates a step side pickup according to the vin identification shown below.

I was looking at the thread on finding the first and last 66 trucks, and all the Fleetsides I looked at (I did not look at all of them) had a "4" (for a step side pickup) rather than the "34" (for a Fleetside pickup) according to the chart. What am I missing?

Just a guess here but I suspect that at some point a PO may have changed beds out on your truck..... If your #'s don't jive then I'd be suspect.

Also check the VIN on the frame as it should match the cab's VIN. It's possible the cab is new to the chassis/bed.

If the chassis, cab, and bed all seem original then there's also the possibility that the factory got the wrong VIN. Unusual but not impossible.

Re: Question about 1966 Vin code identification

In doing more research on this, I found another VIN code decoder that better matches the VIN code on my 66 and 13 (out of 14) other 66 fleetside VIN codes that I checked against. In the VIN code decoder below, the number "4" stands for "pickup."

Re: Question about 1966 Vin code identification

You are correct, I have checked other 1966 C10 Fleet side vins as well. The 4 is for pickup not step side. They would not have a another number in the vin. So you are correct.
