separating sm465 from t221 transfer case
im wanting to separate my 465 from the t/case. my book tells me just unbolt and just slide the t/c back. i want to ask here first if indeed thats all it takes? i need to seal up the front and rear adapter. thanx, paul

yup, that's it. now would be a good time to check the wear on the trans/t-case output and input shafts and the coupler.

There is a cover on the side with 2 bolts. You have to remove that cover to access the 2 adapter bolts INSIDE the adapter. Hey, by the way, I'm a feet dragger.

i did find a few places with rebuild kits for this t/c, 1 place 315.00, another 249.00. good grief.

IIRC, a coupler from a 205 will fit. But if the coupler looks bad, then the input or output shaft is also bad.
But yeah rebuild kits for these are not cheap. It cost me less to swap over to a 205, but i miss my old 221.

I have a nice coupler from a NP205 / SM465, but it's a little longer. I believe it's about 4-1/4". It's a GM part I bought from a dealership, but it got very little use. If this will work for you, let me know.
