LMC probably carries a good dash. Just be carful on istation. If you had a 47 I would avoid all reproductions because that year had a diferent cutout depth than any other year.

Thanks was thinking about opting out the speaker grill area for a cubby hole. or even find a drink holder that might fit into the area that slides in.

It can be done but it would require some fab work. Then again that's what we do

Re: Dash switch in 49

Quick introduction...I bought a 51 3600 that a member Chevy51 had and I am making and having made some improvements. I am not a fab guy but pretty handy and have access to some cool tools.

On the dash I want to do 2 things.

1. Wood grain the entire dash. It could be done with the tools from http://www.woodgraining.com in which I have the starter kit OR it could be done with water transfer technology. Which would mean the entire dash has to come out...which in reading the forum I have not seen anything that makes it look easy.

2. I bought a Parrot Asteroid Smart double din app radio at a great price and my plan is to take the speaker grill and hinge it open. Recess the radio behind the speaker grill so when the grill is closed it looks stock. I think earth magnets will hold it closed nicely. Then if I can figure out a hinge setup that would allow the grill to lay at the correct angle I could cut some low profile plastic rings to keep cups from sliding (I have a small wattage laser cutter to cut plastic)

Suggestions are welcome.

Re: Dash switch in 49

If replacing it is the best option, why not go with something different? I put a '58 in mine.

The 58 dash project is shown about 3/4 through the build thread listed above.

Re: Dash switch in 49

On ther thing you can do is similar to pontiac in 1940. My grandfather has one and the dash is like the ones in the trumucks but it looks like it's made of wood. I'm not exactly sure how they did it but I would look it up on google
