Rear Barden bumper
From what year model Chevrolet trucks would rear bumper correctly fit 1957
3100 with short step side bed and bolt up to frame and fenders without modifications? 55-59 or would other years fit right? Your basic period correct silver/grey diamond plate farm truck step bumper such as made by Barden Bumper, Inc, Woodland CA. Several available from 60-64 Chevy donor trucks. Thanks |

Re: Rear Barden bumper
All stepside beds and rear frame widths are basically the same from 55 thru the 60's. Fleetsides from 58 thru 60's. 60-64 should fit just fine, might need to adjust the frame mounting holes. I did not think the stepsides mounted to the fenders, I know the fleetside one mounted back to the bed sides.

Re: Rear Barden bumper
Thanks. Just the info I wanted. I also don't recall if Barden type bumpers mounted to the fenders on Chevrolets, they did on some Dodges. It would look cleaner if they don't.

Re: Rear Barden bumper
I've seen bumpers that bolted to the rear fenders from the late 50's up through the 70's on both stepside and fleetside boxes. They usually are attached to a fender that has tears in it around the holes that the bumper to the fender through.
I'd have to think that the original thinking was that they would have less chance of catching on brush as one drove through brush on a ranch or in the woods. To me they are a great way to ruin a nice fender and I would not run them no matter how authentic they were. I've seen a lot of aftermarket step bumpers on 48 to mid 70's trucks over the years and some are great looking and some are really crude looking depending on who made them. From what I have seen each region of the country pretty well had it's own bumper manufactures who sold bumpers to the dealers in that region.

Re: Rear Barden bumper
Is this what your talking about ?
If so, it only requires one bolt hole to the side of the fender that can easily be repaired. No junking the fender.

Re: Rear Barden bumper
Yep, that's the bumper I'm looking for, in fact that's exactly the truck I'm after as well, right down to the Brewster Green paint and Texas Oil Co decal (my first job).
Thanks. |

Re: Rear Barden bumper
What I was referring to on the damage to the fender was that it seems that around this area at least those bumpers meant that the truck usually got heavy use and between hooking a log chain to the hitch to pull a stump out they often got banged on objects that were too close when they tried to get past something like a gate post. You probably never have that happen with normal driving.

Re: Rear Barden bumper
Howdy, I realize that this post is old but I'm considering putting a Barden style bumper on 55 GMC and was wondering if you still have some.
Thanks, Darrell Quote:
