How Much of a Lift?

I have a 1976 Chevy C20 Silverado Camper Special, two-tone, with 30" tires on it. I am considering to lift it because of the off-roading I have done with it. My question is, how much of a lift would go good with 30 inch tires. I don't want to lift it to high for safety reasons, but I do want it to be noticeable. I was thinking maybe a 3 inch or 4 inch lift(?).

I run 31's with stock hd suspension, and have plenty of room.

I'm using ord 2" kit with 285/75r16. They fit without lift but rub a little at articulation so I went with 2 inch to create some space. Plus my shocks and springs were shot so if I'm spending the money either way I might as well end up gaining some lift for the bucks. Fine for trails, pastures, construction sites, probably would want more for " wheelin ".

lifting it wont do you any good.put some 33" tires on it. thats 1.5" more ground clearance all around and extra tire height helps

if your going wheelin' in a 2wd, like cory says, lift ain't going to help alot. you need to concentrate on traction, lsd or locker for your rearend & some good tires will get you alot further.

oh yes i forgot a locking rear end. it makes all the difference in a 2 wheel drive on the slick stuff

Thanks for the advice. If I were to lifted, for looks, would a 3 inch or 4 inch be better?

you can put moog #6454 springs on the front (if it doesnt already have the GM equivalent) to lift the front maybe an inch. not much else you can do on a 2 wheel drive

Search on here a guy used 88-98 2wd lift spindles i think he just had to change a ball joint or something simple.

yeah, Fabtech used to make lift spindles for these trucks, might get lucky & find a set. other than that, the spindle, ball joints, etc from 88-98. you could use spring spacers, coils out of a 1 ton will give you an inch & a half or 2, if you go this route, you will most likely need ball joint spacers. also a 2-3" body lift will get you up & leave the factory set up alone, or some aftermarket flared fenders, cut out flares, or just fly at your fenders with a sawzall
