New weatherstripping

Hi. Santa brought me some new parts for my truck this Christmas. One of which was a new set of door weatherstripping. I was wondering if I needed to do anything special to get them to stay on? Do I need to glue them in, or will they just stay in place? I've also heard that some people heat them up to help the rubber shrink to fit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

most of the weatherstripping needs too be glued in. 3m makes weatherstripping glues thats available at dang near any auto parts store its good stuff. it can get a lil' messy though.

when i did it i used some tape and a bunch of these paper clips(the ones i used were slighty bigger than this one) as clamps and they worked awesome although any spring clamps should work.

do yourself a favor and preinstall them with tape and test'm.
alot of guys have problems with haveing too slam their doors after installing.most times after one hot summer they "break in"and work a lil' better.

i've learned here on the board that if you trim the butted ends at a 45 degree angle that you wont trap air in the seal and makes it better when closing.

i've also learned from expeirence that if your seal is a lil' weak at points you can put a small slice and slide some vacuum hose into the seal too stiffen it up a lil'. i had to do this on a hatchback once too keep it from leaking.

just remember too test fit first. oh an gettin the old glue off can be a pain.

I will second the tape and heavy paper clips, they work very well. I would advise getting the black 3m weather strip adhesive , as it hides a bit better than the yellow. Clean area very well with alcohol wipe to better let the glue and rubber stick. Follow the directions and don't rush the glue has a flash time that works better than trying to rush it.

All the above is true.... unless she bought the press-on weather stripping. If so, all you have to do is slip it on the pinch weld, trim it for length, and you're done.

Thanks guys,

The weather-stripping is from LMC. It's the kit they sell. I'm back home in Iowa for the holidays and my truck is back in Kansas, otherwise I would probably have it done by now. I hope it doesn't cause me too much trouble.

Also, I'll have to do this outside. Will the adhesive stick if I do this in Kansas winter temperatures (20s-40s)? If not, I might have to tough it out until spring.
