Need paint code help for 1978 gmc

[INSIDIOUS '86]

So my stepside is a metallic (rootbeer?) brown and I need the paint code since my hood has lost 60% of its paint and my drivers door is somehow the most rotted out part on the truck but the rest of the original paint is great.
I just want to get some panels painted in the correct color and matching.

Anyone know what the PPG color codes and original color codes are?

I was looking at that but it seems kinda vague. I know it's metallic paint and nothing on that site references if the "brown" is metallic.

That and my spid sheet is long gone so that piece of useful info is gone

All I can come up with is possibly code 81 (PPG 2947)

My 77' was the same color. Code 81, but in 77' it was called Cordova instead of Brown Poly.

68 or 71 looks closer to me. Hard to say w/out your truck in front of me so I can fold the page of the color book over and compare chips. That's the joy of viewing a photo of a 35 year old truck and comparing scans of a 35 year old book in low resolution online.

I think it's probably code 81 brown metallic. You could buy a little touch up paint to paint a test panel. I bought some 1/2 pints last year that were less than $20 each.

My K5 is same color brown, at least what it looks like in your picture.

Looks very similar to mine yours maybe a little darker, 1980 Dark Camel code #62

TexasJeff - Is the color in your picture true to what it looks like on the truck? That color is just what I'm thinking for my 78 GMC. But, if you are in Pinehurst just north of Tomball, I may have to look for something different

Thanks guys I will go to my local wesco auto body and get a sample of that code 81 poly brown and see if it matches.

Also what type of paint was used at the factory? Urethane? Acrylic? Enamel?

High solid enamel (during my time at the plant).

Rgunlock, the picture is true to the paint color, the sun tends to brighten it up some. I am in the Pinehurst just north of Tomball, been there for a little over 8 years now.
