Painted Grills
My 64 grill is in great shape except it needs re chromed. The truck is white with red strip down the side. I may paint the grill red. Does anyone have pics of painted 64 to 66 grills? Aluminum polish does not help it.

Re: Painted Grills
When you say polish won`t help it, did you remove the anodized coating first..?

Re: Painted Grills
Anodized coating was baked on, sort the first power coat in a sense, polishing compound will not touch it, use eazy off on it first, leave it on only a few minutes, use a green pad to remove the easy off, it may take a few recoates but less is better, the wash with soap and water then go to the polishing with like mothers aluminum polish, ...note from that point on you will have to polish it semi annually....the protective coating will be gone that protected it from the UV....
HERE`s a thread on it GRS http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...rill+polishing

Re: Painted Grills
Has anyone try to install the 64-66 tach conversion kit in a 62 dash where the stock tach would have gone ?
Thanks, Joe |

Re: Painted Grills
Good luck with yer grille, but I still wouldn't mind seeing some painted ones now that you brought it up. White is what I got, but anybody out there try something in color?

Re: Painted Grills
Here is a pic of my truck. I think the grill would look good red.

Re: Painted Grills
This pic is small and it has a different grill but it might give you a little idea of what it might look like. Personally I think it would be a little too much.
So is your grill aluminum or chromed steal? I'm a little confused when you said it needed to be re-chromed.

Re: Painted Grills
Maybe get a steel grill and paint it? If you don't like it, you could just swap your polished aluminum grill back in.

Re: Painted Grills
The PO painted mine orange like the rest of the truck...have thought about changing it to white (or at least the headlight rims) but the kids all love the orange, so it will probably stay as it is.

Re: Painted Grills
Funny thing is, when I bought the truck, I planned on an eventual repaint...but it has really grown on me, and I think the wife and kids would protest if I tried to change the color. So...when it gets repainted...it will be orange. Again. Our license plate is "63CRUSH". I want to make some magnetic signs of a vintage Orange Crush logo to put on the doors now.
