Sloppy Steering

So my K10 came back with a brand new engine and is running like a champ. Apparently the steering is very "loose" according to the wife. This tells me there is too much play in the steering. I was wondering what are some things I should be looking to repair or replace when I get back from Afghanistan to tighten up the steering?

Tie rods or idler arm to name a couple.

Re: Sloppy Steering

Also check the frame around the box. Some have a tendency to crack there. Otherwise just go through the linkage and the box.

Re: Sloppy Steering

cheap /might be easiest too, I'd start with the rag joint, oil leaks, heat, degrade the rubber
sure helped mine tighten up

Re: Sloppy Steering

Steering boxes wear a lot more in the center of the gear than they do towards any other side.

A new steering box may be in order

Re: Sloppy Steering

I think my first step will be to replace the steering box. When I start doing that I should be able to see any breaks, leaks, or loose bolts along the network and can address them as they come along.

Re: Sloppy Steering

I would rebuild the rag joint first since it is cheap and easy. Here is a how to.
