Clifford intake.. Heated or not heated??
I am currently bidding on a used Clifford intake and after I committed to the bid I realized that this is a non heated intake.. Should I ask the seller to retract my bid and hold out for a water heated intake?? or will I be okay using a non heated intake?? I plan to plant a holly 390cfm on the intake and drive it as a daily driver.. Thanks for any input you guys can share!!

i personally would want heated.. easier to drive in cold and more consistent the rest of the time

That's the perfect combo, Clifford intake with a Holley 390. I never used a heated manifold...but then again it never gets cold here.

Heated intake is they way to go for street use. The fuel will atomize better for your mpg's and just overall performance. Non heated intakes are mostly used in high performance street and race applications.

Heated, I run one on my 63 chevy II and it helps retain driveability. Even being heated you can feel that the intake is cool due to all the air movement inside and outside (mechanical rad fan).

I bought my L6 upgrade in the long distant days when 'Clifford Research' was the name of the company. I bought their headers, but I don't remember if Clifford made an intake yet, so I got the Offenhauser cast-aluminum 4 Bbl and put the Holley p/n R8007, model of the 4160 in 390CFM on top.
Clifford used to make a water-cooled carb heater attachment that bolted on underneath the manifold. They made one model for the Offy and then another for their early 4 Bbl 'inhouse' intakes. Later they made an intake with included plumbing. Personally, I have had very few situations where I thought carb heat would have helped. [all of them in the mountains, or in freezing weather] There has never been a carb heat feature on my 292, I don't think they're necessary, but then, I live in Tucson. If I operated in New York, I might have a different opinion.

You might be able to tap it to install Clifford's water heat plate under the manifold ? Some already are set up for heat, some not ! My 292 with manual choke starts up fine in cold weather, runs a little rough for a moment but clears up soon after I push choke in a little. I the summer I don't know if you want HOT water running thru it all the time ? Might need to install a cut off valve
