Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
So here are a few details on what I have planned:
Since I bought it out of province I have to get it safetied. There isn't a whole lot wrong with it mechanically just cosmetically. So that is this spring/summers project. Once I get it roadworthy and safetied it is going to get a 4/6 drop. Next winter it is going to get taken apart again to prepare it for a stock floor body drop. Front suspension: MMW control arms Porterbuilt dropmember Dominator 2600 bags Rear Suspension: Dominator 2600 bags Triangulated 4 link Air Management: Air Zenith OB2 X2 Accu-Air E-Level I am going to turn it into a short box. As I am getting it ready for the safety I will be doing a 5 lug conversion on it. I plan on running 22's on it. The grille is going to be swapped to an earlier grille with the round head lights with separate park lights. What rims I'm going to run is still to be determined. As for the color of the truck it will be Infiniti Liquid copper Metallic. |

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
Here are some pics of the truck.
It has a 350/turbo 400 combo. The are not the stock components. They will both be freshened up when I tare it apart next winter to body drop it. The dash pad is in really good shape. There is one small crack off of the speaker holes. The gauge bezel is chipped it the one corner but that is easily replaced. The bench seats are in really good condition. The rear bench will stay but the front is getting a bucket seat and console.Eventually. The door panels aren't in the worst shape. But my friend that will be doing the stereo install is going to take care of making them look better. Not a 100% but is this a factory or dealer installed cruise control? Its got an 8-track player. Yeah thats going to change in a few months. Now for the not so good interior pics. Driver side floor. Passenger side floor. Thats a whole lotta daylight coming through. Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
So now for some not so pretty exterior pics.
The hood is all dented and cracked just in front of the hood hinges. The slider is going to be replaced with a solid window that I got from a friend that was parting a reg cab C-10 out. The tailgate has a large crease in. I have plans to create a one off filler panel. But, the details on that will be revealed after it is in progress. The front doors both have creases right through the bodyline. The passenger side is way worse then the driver side. I'm going to replace them both. The rear doors have some minor surface rust so that will be easily fixed. |

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
Now for the ugly.
The front fenders a rotten. The rockers are about as good as the front fenders. The passenger side isn't as bad but its getting replaced anyways. This was something I did not expect at all. The cab supports are pretty much swiss cheese. Since I bought the truck so late in the year this is how the truck spent its time after I bought it. |

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
Well I found more rot in the engine compartment during tear down.
This picture is of the lower right side of the rad support. The whole lower egde is gone. I wish I would have gotten my motivation to work on the truck last year because this is what I woke up to 2 weeks later. So this is where I am at right now a complete stand still until my ally is completely melted. |

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
Now for all the parts I have been starting to hoard since January.
New inner fenders. I only bought these to pass safety. New front fenders. New hood. Sorry it is a horrible picture. It wasn't easy trying to take a pic of it in my shed. New rad support. I bought a billet grille through a supplier at work. I also got a new battery tray and support bracket Unfortunately the support is on back-order. I scored the Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers off of Facebook for $50.00. They have only 2 hours run time on them. |

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
In the last few weeks I ordered more parts. I ordered new rockers,OEM style cab supports and extended front floor pans. They should hopefully be here by the end of the week.
I also ordered that I can't wait to get. On Monday I ordered a set of Sisco's Fabrication scissor hinges. I think I may have found the rims I am going to be running. I just need to find out if it comes in the right bolt pattern. I will post pics of the color I am going with once I get a good sun day to show the color. I will also post pics as more parts start to come in. |

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
Shoot, I'd fix the mono speaker in the dash and run the 8-track if it works. Do the kicker Ipod deal for the real stereo. Old school points, baby! Like your Crew.

I found this one when I wasn't really looking. Then they all started to come out of the woodwork after I bought it. Yes I live right in Kitscoty.

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
I haven't pulled the dash pad off yet so I don't know the the actual condition of that speaker. That might be an interesting idea to keep the 8-track and hide another head unit somewhere else. Thanx I appreciate that.

Re: 1980 C20 Crew Cab Build Up
Finally got a good sunny day to take a pic of the color that my truck is going to be.
Took a closer look at my dash today. Found a few more cracks in it. Is there an easy way to fix these cracks without having to buy a cover? Didn't notice this bezel for the dash vents was broken before. Oh well, they sell replacements. |
