Zombie truck saved from chrusher
A couple of years ago I spotted a 66 GMC on the back of a rollback of a rabid scrapper. I stopped and asked about it. The truck was only hours away from being crushed. after some haggling I bought it for $400. He delivered it to my place. This truck was a Zombie been asleep since 2000. So I pulled the spark plugs and none where fouled or had oily redidue on them. So I filled the Cyls with a 50-50 mixture of auto trans fluid & diesel fuel. put a large quanity of rat poison in the cab. And Let it sit until a few weeks ago. I sold our 65 chev PK. So I went and pulled the plugs and installed a battery. unhooked the fuel line from the pump and attached a short hose to a gallon jug. Cranked it a bit to blow out the tranny fuel and diesel. reinstalled the spark plugs anf it didn't start. filed the points and it cranked immediately smoked a bit and smoothed up and idled beautifully. I could pull the PCV from the valve cover and not a trace of blowby. Now this heap is rusty packed full of blackberry canes horse & cow manure and other stuff by pack rats. So I took out the seat opened the doors and gave it a good pressure washing. the stale gas stench was overpowering so I removed the gas tank and threw it away. Put on a new master cyl and I have brakes. So I drive it a bit sitting on a milk crate. The granny four speed shifts good and is quiet. So far I have patched the floor pans changed the driver side rocker. and the complete front cap and hood. abd changed the gas tank & seat. I using what I like to call mediocre parts. the fenders ect are solid rust free but dented. Im pounding out the dents but aren't going to use any body filler. In not going to sand anything. Just use rust converter and flat black primer. Ive got a crome grill & bumper to use also. I plan on swapping to 73 up five hole front suspension and rear end. the GMC rear leaf springs make the swap to 5 lug simple.

Re: Zombie truck saved from chrusher
I ve got quite a few parts trucks. I just went out back and found a good one. Gas tanks left to sit with gasoline will quickly go bad. the gas turns to varnish and guns up and they also rust out. I try and drain them out and pour in some Sta Bill or seafoam. Hardly ever are the sending units for the gas guage any good so I usually purchase them brand new. I used to drive truck for the local recycler scrap man. I was almost every week dragging home a chev or GMC truck that someone had sold for junk. I also stripped a lot of parts from trucks before they where crushed. I rescued a 64 chevy 3/4 ton body once. It had a good title. I installed a 250 six and 4 speed trans. pulled the stepside bed and put on a flatbed with a home built winch and sling. We used that little wrecker for 10 years.

Re: Zombie truck saved from chrusher
If I can ever figure out how to use the digital camera ill post pictures. Ive always had both Chev & GMC trucks. However I prefer the GMC. the rear leaf springs the round speedometer and having real chrome grill rather than the chev polished aluminum to me is better. Ive got another 66 GMC with a longbed stepside. Its a future project. Ive already installed a 73 disk brake front end. I have a GMC ( Pontiac) 287 V8 out of a 55 GMC that will power it. The Pontiac is a manual trans version. Im also currentlydriving a 66 GMC 1/2 short stepside. 250 six and factory powerglide auto.

Re: Zombie truck saved from chrusher
Ok the wife has taught me how to use the camera. The first two pictures are of the Zombie truck. Ive changed the front inner @ outer fenders, radiator support grille & hood. Im planning on changing the door,s and put on a stepside bed. Ive also got a crome front bumper for it. Im wanting to make it into a 30 footer A truck that looks great from 30 feet away)? The next two pictures are of my 66 GMC short stepside truck. its a pretty solid truck with minimal rust. It needs minor body work and paint. I plan to sell it. Ive got both of these GMC,s insured and licenced. They are my daily drivers.
