transmission swap help

Hello guys, I am new to the forum and wanted to see if you guys had any good ideas of how or where to start my transmission swap project. I have a 1970 Chevy c 10 swb with a 383 stroker motor with a turbo 350 3 speed automatic transmission in it. I want to put a 5 speed manual in it. This is really a cruiser truck and won't be towing or hauling things. I was thinking about the nv4500. Any suggestions on what it would take to get started. I have read through some of the other threads on this, but I was wondering more of cost info. I know there is a lot of options that would change the cost of the project, but I was wanting to get a ballpark of what I was looking at to have this done. Thanks for the help.

Pedals, linkage, driveshaft, transmission, shifter.
Exhaust?
Steering column?
High hump trans cover?
New carpet?

The NV4500 is not only pricey but unnecessary. Either a T5, T6 or T56 trans with Hydraulic clutch will be easier to install and have a better chance of fitting in the trans tunnel where your TH350 currently sits, saving a great deal of cutting and welding. There are lots of vendors selling T5's and the newer T56 is also available. All of them handle the torque from your 383 and T5's can be had for $1600.00. T56's for the same price as your nv4500. Hydraulic pedals with masters are available from Wilwood, JEGS and Summit. So much easier than moving exhaust and searching out linkage bits at the junkyard to put in a mechanical clutch linkage.

Try LKQ online. Just search for the trans out of a 2008-2009 Pontiac G8, 2005-2006 GTO, or the 93-2002 Camaro. All used the T56. D&D has reconditioned ones for $2995.00

True, but in hill country it is awfully nice to have a granny gear to get a heavy load moving.

Besides- I've got a sports car for speed shifting (and squirreling around corners faster than a C20 ever dreamed).
