Heater Gaskets
Does the heater have gaskets? My heater motor is making noise. I don't think it has a gasket, but does the rest of the heater system?

Re: Heater Gaskets
Standard or deluxe heater? There is a gasket set available for the 63-66 heaters that I know of.

Re: Heater Gaskets
Where there is no real gasket, like where the top meets the box or any other sheet metal on sheet metal I used what is called Dum Dum chalk strip.
It is approx. 3/16 - 1/4 round and comes in strips that you lay in close to those little screws before tightening, used to keep the circulating air in your heater and not seeping out the cracks. I believe the box I have came from Pro Form. Comes in different colors. If you get a box it should last a long time as there must be 100' per box. This will not help with your noisey blower but if you have everything apart then use it. Cal. |

Re: Heater Gaskets
I do the same thing and you can find a box of the caulk strips at pretty much any hardware store. It is also useful on putting plastic or heavy paper under door panels to seal the doors up.

Re: Heater Gaskets
If the heater is making a lot of noise, it may be the heater motor bearing going bad.

Re: Heater Gaskets
Thanks all. I think it is the motor making noise. What is involved on replacing it?

Re: Heater Gaskets
Several sheet metal screws that are upside down and blind to you, and one wire plugs on. It has a squirrel cage on it, so it takes a while to wrestle it off if you do it with the heater box still on the truck, but it is possible.
The big thing to look out for is if the motor is bad, it is often because the heater core is leaking...check for that. |
