What do I have?
Ok, I bought this truck an have been working in it. Rewired it and put the glass in it. Title states it's a 1960. But I want to start working on the front suspension, new spindles, disk brakes ect... I needed to replace a few wheel studs so went to the local auto parts store and asked for 1960 C10 wheel studs (I was kind of smart and brought the ones I pulled off) they didn't match. After digging around the parts store the studs I brought with me matched a 1963 C10 stud. So how do I figure out what front suspension I have??? If the wheel studs front and rear have studs for a 63 is it safe to say that someone swapped the suspension from a 63 onto this truck? Or did they just cut off the torsion bars add airbags?

Re: What do I have?
Look like the truck had torsion bars before it was bagged. 62 was the last year for that.

Re: What do I have?
Yep, the front suspension remains 60-62. The big tubes next to the inner pivots are where the torsion bars used to mount. Perhaps the studs didn't match because the previous owner replaced the front hubs with those from a 62-63 to get rid of the original ball bearings. I believe beginning in 1962 the front hubs came from the factory with Timken roller bearings instead.
Replacement ball bearings are very expensive now and don't last like originals. Roller bearings provide very long service life and are cheap by comparison.

Re: What do I have?
Cool truck. The lower bag mounts (front and rear) look a little, actually a lot under engineered. The fronts are bending and the rears don't appear to have any support at all. The fronts should have full plates welded to the bottom of the arms. The rears should probably be completely redesigned. Hanging off the side of the arms is going to twist them. The c10 forum is heavy into bagging, tons of info to get you going in the right (safe) direction.

Re: What do I have?
Thanks for the information, I was planing on redoing both the front and rear bag mounts. Can I use later model a-arms on this truck?

Re: What do I have?
The torsion bar arms etc. is different than the later stuff. Typically guys swap the whole front crossmember, suspension and all. If you want disc brakes use later model doner c/member.

Re: What do I have?
You'll need the complete front suspension from a '71-'87 C10.

Re: What do I have?
yeah those rear plates for those bags is a little dangerous. they could break off with no support like that.
