Painless harness not so painless
Anyone have a wiring schematic for an 85. I need the interior and engine bay schematic. I'm installing a painless truck harness. The wires are labeled well as stated but I'm uncertain which wire goes on which place on the plugs. Headlights, parking light and all the interior plugs

Re: Painless harness not so painless
The user you're looking for is hatzie. He has most of the factory service manuals scanned all with wiring diagrams

Re: Painless harness not so painless
Did you buy the one that fits in place of the factory fuse block? Looking at going that route with one of mine. Do a search for Hatzie and you should be able to find his wiring diagrams. Subscribing, want to see the finished product.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
Also if you need I just received the Shop Manual and the Service Manual for my '86 P/U. The actual GM ones. Got them off Amazon for like $30 total and they're in GREAT shape! If I can scan anything in for you that hatzie hasn't let me know.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
I bought #10103 it was supposed to fit in factory hole but it won't. The bulkhead doesn't split like a factory harness. It was also supposed to have the column plugs wired but they weren't. That's where I'm having trouble. You only get one shot with their plugs once you insert the terminal there's no pulling it out. I have pulled my hair out today trying to figure it out with a test light. Thanks for posting the link to the schematic that helps a bunch.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
The one I am going to use is a 10205. The one you used says universal, maybe thats why it doesnt fit the firewall like the stocker. You can buy removal tools to pull the terminals back out.

No wiring is painless.

Wiring is easy, just time consuming.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
Painless Wiring = Painful Wiring
You have the universal (which I'm sure all of their kits are pretty much universal). You will need to reuse your old headlight harness as well as the dual tank harness. What I found to help was to lay our the harnesses side by side and figure out which connectors you will need to reuse / pry off your old harness and put on the Painful harness.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
Thanks for the link. It's coming along not to bad but not easy either. I had to cut the million zip ties off and rearrange it to fit. This came with headlight wiring and new headlight sockets but that's the only connectors you get other than under the dash. I got the fuse block mounted and wires roughly ran. I'm making it harder than it should be by testing everything a thousand times before cutting anything. One more day and should have it done.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
Good wiring takes plenty of time and lots of patience.
There's no such thing as being too careful or taking too much time. It's easier to do it right the first time than to clean it up afterward.

Re: Painless harness not so painless
It's a k30. I was looking over the tail section wires and noticed one was labeled "to dome". Would that be for a superburb rear dome light?

Re: Painless harness not so painless
If this is #10103 this is the install manual from Painless. --> http://www.painlessperformance.com/Manuals/10103.pdf
It looks like there are 2 dome wires in that harness White power and Black ground. The original GM harness uses White Ground and Orange hot in the Dome circuit... just to add to the confusion. In the above PDF Jump to page 29 paragraphs 10.4.1 & 10.4.1 GM dome & floor "courtesy" lights use a switched ground and unswitched hots described in 10.4.1 I posted a quick and dirty diagram of the dome system to assist some folks a while ago. It doesn't show the "key present" buzzer wire on the driver door jamb switch...http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...75&postcount=6
