How rare are these? I have one that I bought off a farm truck that the old farmer was gonna scrap. I have never seen another where I live...

I don't think these are extremely rare in comparison to any other dealer installed accessory. You don't find them that often. Bumper guards are more popular. Perhaps there is more of an association with installation on a 4x4.
The one in San Antonio is for a 60-61 as it is not notched for the grill that sits closer to the bumper in 62-66. The one you have is for 62-66. Something I learned from this site.
No they never came chromed, I cheated, but I like how it looks.

I have never understood the appeal of those things.

To me, our front grilles are too beautiful to hide them behind a guard.

I had no idea there was a difference in the years. Thanks for posting the instruction sheet! Its been so long since I removed it that I had forgotten how it goes back on.
