Alternative to cast iron WP pulley for AC?
The front of my factory cast iron 3 groove water pump pulley on my 66 is broke (the nose piece that centers the fan hub). I could probably make a snug down to fit in there and center the pulley, but i'd rather replace it, i'd feel better with the fan spinning that fast, knowing it was all one piece.
Anyways, i see they're rare and if someone has one for sale i haven't seen it yet. I have power steering and AC, is there another three groove pulley from another year i could substitute for now? I apologize if this was already asked, i didn't see anything searching around. Thanks!

Not a water pump pulley, but the crankshaft pulley.

Re: Alternative to cast iron WP pulley for AC?
Thanks for the link but my crank setup is ok, just need the WP pulley :-/
pimpston, if i find another would gladly sell this one. Will likely have to make it work it seems so far. I do have the original factory AC fan and everything, in fact everything is AC correct but the compressor, so i hate to just slap some generic pulley on there. I'm a dummy for breaking it, will have to keep looking.

That pulley can be repaired. Have a machine shop mill or drill center to the size of original stem use round stock the size of stem and plug weld from back side.

Re: Alternative to cast iron WP pulley for AC?
This is the same pulley here, from another thread...i broke the nipple off the front that aligns the fan, being dumb and not realizing i wasn't pushing on the water pump shaft like a steel pulley. Again, i could just use a snug dowel half in the pulley and half in the fan and the bolts would hold it all together, but i'd really like to find another cast one, and have a stamped one on hand in case the rigged repair doesn't work.

I did not consider welding in addition to inserting a dowel, that is a great plan, i'll follow up on that with the local shop.

Re: Alternative to cast iron WP pulley for AC?
That's the way to do it. When they get the bar stock turned down to the O.D. of the original dowel, see if they can drill the center of the pulley a few thousanths undersize and press the new dowel in place and add a plug weld or drill a couple of lock pins into it. If you can, give them your fan clutch or hub so they can make the dowel fit perfectly. If done correctly, it'll be a fix you'll never have to worry about.

Re: Alternative to cast iron WP pulley for AC?
if i had that job i would bore it and bore a step on the inside. makeup a replacement with a matching step and press it in from the inside. not going anywhere. you could do that job on the lathe or mill
