If you have a torsionbar frontend only hubs drums & bearings from a 61 &62 torsion bar frontend will fit. 63 parts wont work.

Hey Bregion,
To reduce the weight remove the pin, nut,up to and including the bearing and hub. don't need the rest, brake shoes etc... |

You can grind off the rivets that hold the brake drum to the center hub. that will allow you to separate the drum from the hub. the center hub will then ship in a us post office flat rate box.

If you need the drum also make sure you have enough meat in the drum to have turned. Nothing worse than buying a drum that is out of spec and you cannot have it turned. Then you get to buy a second drum. If your hub is good you can buy a new drum, grind your rivets out , install the new drum and good to go.

Will I have to rivet the new drum to the hub? |

Re: WTB 60-61 Chevy, front 6 lug hub.
It is a good idea to re attach to your hub somehow whether by rivets or other means . Your wheel studs also work as attaching devices but rivets or bolts never hurt. Ask a good brake shop. Do not read it on the internet.

Re: WTB 60-61 Chevy, front 6 lug hub.
I did a quick check and found a new drum for $42 plus ship. I would buy from one of the vendors that support this site. Used is ok also as long as you have margin to turn safely. I only sell used parts but everyone selling new and for the price I cannot compete.

Re: WTB 60-61 Chevy, front 6 lug hub.
Ive ground them off and never bothered to reattach them and never had any problems. The wheel and 6lug nuts clamp it tightly. on many vehicles the brake drums are not attached to the drums. having them where they can be removed without disturbing the wheel bearings is handy.

Re: WTB 60-61 Chevy, front 6 lug hub.
The previous only had changed the hub and when reattached the rivets was left large. I'm putting on after market wheel that need adapters and rivets are not letting it go on flush. So I can grind rivets down flush and have no problem.
I will try it tomorrow. will let you know how it works. |
