Anyone recommend a good tranny to swap?

Hey guys, getting lots of great advice on here, got a fresh set of tires and a list of all parts to swap from carb 350 to fuel injected on here through recommendations by members!! you guys rock.

the truck is road legal now and running good with the 4.3 in it, but soon will be time to swap to the 350! but before i do that i want to get rid of the th350 and find a manual transmission to throw in there at the same time!.

What i am wondering is what are some easy/half decent transmissions i could use and perhaps even the type of vehicle they came out of ex ( 80's chev truck, 90's chev truck, camaro, etc....) i have the clutch pedal assembly out of a 89 chev truck with a 5 speed in it, if that is any good!

Thanks for looking,

Cory

If you're swapping to a EFI 350 setup, I'd go ahead and swap to the 5 speed transmission (NV3500) used in light duty trucks during the late 80s and through the 90s.

Cory, I'm with Kevin on this. NV3500 would work well. It has a hydraulic clutch and unless the 89 was a square body, I don't think the clutch pedal will work. Anything 86 and newer square will work for the pedals. You may have to adapt the hydraulic line. Shouldn't be a problem though.

Re: Anyone recommend a good tranny to swap?

thanks for the reply!! i had one of these transmissions a few years ago out of a 2wd... i ended up selling it to someone who showed up with 150 bucks cash... wishing i didn't now haha. so i need the clutch pedal out of a square body truck, and try to rig that up for hydraulic clutch. no way to mount the cutch pedal out of a newer style chev? looks like I'm on the hunt for a 5 speed.

I don't know if the mounting is the same for the newer body style for the clutch pedals. But since the 86 up used he hydraulics you would be able to pull ll the bits and pieces that you would need for the swap.
