thoughts on aftermarket front fenders??

I know they are never quite right but was wandering anyone's thoughts that have bought some and what they would recomend. I was going to patch the lower portions but the support behind them are rotted also. Probably be easier just to buy new ones. Any thoughts?

Every once in a while somebody will list a set of fenders in the parts area. I would try to buy some stockers and repair them before using aftermarket. That's just my OP, I could be wrong I haven't checked with my Wife yet!

I have a friend who used the fiberglass aftermarket ones. He's been very happy with them. Anyone else done that? What's your experience and opinions?

I bought mine from LMC and they fit quite nicely, metal is a little thinner than you would expect but a few shims here and there and you cant tell. I have also heard quite the opposite as well so its really what you prefer I would also try to find some originals and repair if your good at that sort of thing as for me I am not so opted for repo. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1401843292

I bought my new replacement fenders from Golden State Pickup Parts back in 1998 when they first came on the market. The quality at that time was very poor. The "C' shaped seam at the front of the fenders was so badly fitted a pencil fit into the gap. At least the inboard edges lined up so the seams could be easily filled.

The crown of the fender stood out almost an inch above the front of the door. I resorted to lightly standing on the side of the fender repeatedly attempting to bring it in alignment with the door. I placed blocks of wood under the inner support to minimize the risk stepping down too hard and kinking the fender. Eventually the crown matched up with the door without causing any further damage.

Also the upper rear attaching point where the mounting bracket is welded to the fender was mangled. I assumed the fender extension would cover the damage, but it didn’t. So all the time the truck was gloss black, that part of the fender showed damage. I finally filled the area and finished it correctly when I repainted the truck Blitz Black.

I would like to hope the replacement fenders have been improved since 1998. I made what was available work, as my original passenger fender had been damaged in a collision, and both showed typical rust damage. Having no welding abilities, for me making the new fenders work was a better option than fixing the originals.

I think we all have different levels of expertise and EXPECTATIONS.

I would think that if you are prepared to try welding, then repairing or finding good originals is the best way forward.

But as Mark said, and also my buddy Martin who bought his from LMC, the pattern parts can be made to fit.
Martin says his parts are better than some modern car panels he has seen.

I myself odered in lower and inner repair sections and supports from LMC as price etc was the keenest, and then got Ta2Don to post them to England from Arkansas. An expensive, long winded way, but we have few options here in England.

I actually got mine from brothers and as I worked in a body shop for more years than I want to admit. I tried them on before my strip down . Admitted illy only holding them on to check gaps and they were a lot better than some of the replacement after market panels, I have had to make fit at work over the years . My fenders were to far gone as one of the previous owner had repaired them badly and the front were also rotten . They are at grizzs now perhaps he can put up a picture Martin

I've heard some terrible things about aftermarket fenders and the fit. Recently, though, I've heard some good things about AMD replacement parts and I have been hoping someone would have tried them by now and could let us all know how good they are. You could be the first.

Thanks for the info guys! Yeah, I'm leaning toward just fixing mine. They are just bad on the bottom rear. I can weld and I always feel that cutting, grinding, and welding is like theropy. LOL! I sold one of my bikes over the weekend and was using that cash to buy all the body parts I need for when I start on it.

Plan B, which is what I did, is to buy repair panels for my trucks wings. Makes it a lot easier.

I had to chuckle..... Am selling my Scorpa SY250 as well, as I have not ridden it in more than a year and my sensible wife said "Sell it, you can buy another if you need it"

PS. What time of day is it in Jasper?
Or are you on a weird shift?

I think all of the repops are made in the same factory. My original fenders were rotted and banged up beyond repair. I was disappointed by the fit of the repops, and I had to modify them quite a bit to fit properly. If you can, repair your originals.

I just received my front fenders and inner fenders from LMC yesterday and they appear to be the same ones auto metal direct (AMD) sells. I just went with new ones as the whole front end was redone pretty shoddy by some previous owner and it just bugged me. Visually, they look really nice. I won't know the fitment for a couple weeks still though.

It was early evening when I posted it. Seems like I only rode my bike every once in a while because the kids are always needing picked up or taken to their sports events etc. That's why I decided to sell my main bike back in the winter and use towards the truck. I can fit both kids in it! Then I sold another one this past weekend and decided to devote that cash for fixing the body eventually. Just wanted to have the parts ready.

A friend of mine has these and loves them. Been on his truck for several years with no issues.

I bought a set from classic parts. I honestly don't think that they're that bad. Had to trim a little bit where the cowl extension meets the fender. Not a big deal. They look a lot better than the rotted out originals that were on there.
