383 Stroker compression test today, 70+K HARD miles
My '84 K10 with a 383 stroker is acting a little tired. Still runs good, no knocks or funny noises, and rarely any smoke from the exhaust. I built the engine 12 years ago, and it now has over 70,000 HARD miles on it. (It was previously in my 66 K20 and I hauled tens of thousands of tons with it). Here is the results of today's compression test. I know being at 5300 ft elevation, I should be really happy if I see a reading of 150 on the gauge.
1. dry 140 wet 150 3. dry 145 wet 160 5. dry 135 wet 140 7. dry 150 wet 155 2. dry 140 wet 150 4. dry 140 wet 145 6. dry 140 wet 150 8. dry 145 wet 160 All things considered, I feel it's basically a sound engine, and might need nothing more than a fresh timing gear and chain set with no slack or slop. Any thoughts ??

What pistons and cylinder heads? What is the compression ratio? Those numbers looks pretty good for a stroker with 70K miles!

I don't remember what compression ratio the pistons are, I wanted to be able to run it on the cheap quality pump gas we get so I didn't go nuts with compression. The only time I ever got any pinging from the engine was when I drove it to Phoenix once. The lower elevation and thicker air caused me to have to bump up to premium gas.
The heads are stock 882's.
