Where Is The Love At Car Shows?

I try to hit as many local car shows and events as I can during the year, especially those catering to pre-70s models, but often the smaller local events will have anything from a Model-T to a 2014 "muscle car".

But the one thing I have noticed is that consistently there few if any classic trucks. If there are any at all they tend to be much newer, if not brand new models.

So help me understand why car shows are always light on pickups?
Or is it just a trait of those local shows in my area?

I guess that is why they call them car shows. I doubt anyone is trying to boycott them, but the lack of entrants

Maybe it varies by what part of the country you're in. In my area, there's usually more pickups than cars.

we do 5-6 shows in spring & summer with in 100 miles of home, each year...these trucks are very popular in the pacific north west....

Trucks are in good numbers out here in Ga and they are mostly older.

Check the parking lot outside the shows. Most guys use thier trucks and drive them to the shows, but because they are "used" they may feel they don't show well and usually have them outside the show area.

I've takin' my 66 out to the Home Depot in Kemah a couple times. But most people would walk past my truck with their noses in the air. Not sure if it's because of the air ride or the rust. But there are also way too many cars out there with window stickers. I guess it is just the culture around here. That is probably my biggest turn off from going to shows around our area.

Texas Hoedown probably had 25 60-66 trucks this year, Lonestar Roundup had at least that many again this year. I think that there are usually 3-5 at the Niftee Fiftee meets each week, but I do agree that the smaller get togethers don't seem to draw many of our trucks because I'm guessing of the broad mix of years those events draw. I personally don't want to park next to a new Camaro with halo lights because the crowd these attract don't understand what we drive.

There are lots of nice rides at the Longhorn Rod Run in old town Spring but usually only a few 60-66 pickups.

Meh, car shows usually suck anyway.

Seems like most folks there fall into three categories by and large.

You got the booger pickin spectators walking around talking crap about every car there. These same people never did anything more advanced than an oil change on their Kia either. They got no project car. They're always "gonna build another" someday. Or they had a better one back in the day. But never have crap right now.

Then you got the professional lawn chair crew with bought cars. You ask them a real tech question about something and they look at you with a blank stare until finally forced to admit that they just bought the car as-is and didn't build any of it.

Then, there's the 2% of the bunch who actually built their own crap and know the whole story. They're usually the rougher looking rides necessitated by being built on a working man's budget. Meeting these guys is the only enjoyable thing about the show.

Stereotyping ? Yes. I got burnt out on car shows a long time ago.

I see you're from Kemah. I always try to plan my Home Depot runs for Saturday evenings since there is usually a mini car show going on in the parking lot. You ever make it up there? There are normally a handful of cool old trucks.

Spot on! The best show I've been to in a long time was a rat rod show. Most of the guys built what they brought. One guy showed me his home build intake manifold. ROUGH, but the coolest thing I've seen in a while. The carb was above the windshield! Of course they quit having it a few years back.

Lots of shows out here with an endless variety of cars and participants. Same show has it's share of checkbook restorers and mad fabricators with their stuff.
As far as our trucks go, I'm bringin' the love.

Car shows are for Show cars..........I really don't go to car shows, My truck was build to drive and have fun. I might hit the cruise inn's but those are far from being a show. In my opinion cruise inn's your welcome to bring anything you want...even if its not finished..
