need a new radiator
The radiator in my 63 started leaking today. I replaced it in the 80's with a repo and am looking to do the same but am having trouble finding a similar one. The core is 19.5 inches and the height is 24. It measures 26" wide overall. The inlet on top is in the middle and the bottom outlet is on passenger side. Any one know of a good source for these, It looks like most of the 63's I looked at were different. I saw some on ebay but they were aluminum. Thanks

Re: need a new radiator
Do you need to stay original or would an aftermarket one work? Look at my build thread if you need info in an aftermarket one.. I have had great luck so far.

Re: need a new radiator
First time around I tried to fit a 63-66 radiator in there and it wouldn't fit, a guy at golden state parts said I have a pre april 63 and that's why I have a 62 radiator? I am looking to buy a oe replacement, US radiator http://www.usradiator.com/ has the stuff I'm looking for, they sell it at http://www.coolcraft.com/radiators/c...ows=13&year=89 but there is a 6 to 8 weeks build delay, still looking I do want to add a electric fan like 61_FL_Apache has in his build thread and hide it under the barrel shrould.

Re: need a new radiator
we make bolt in radiators for the 63-66 model, but it appears you have a 62-down radiator in yours. If you need one sooner than the other company, if you can send us yours we can build one in 3-4 weeks (we're also a Gold Vendor here on the forum). here is a link to our 63-66 versions so you can get an idea of how ours are built here in the USA:

Re: need a new radiator
I had ordered a champion rad and it would have required modifying the upper and lower mounting brackets on my 66, so I returned it, then I took my rad to a shop and had it re-cored, they did an outstanding job. In the end I was glad to retain the original rad.

What did they charge for a re-core?

Re: need a new radiator
Note that ours are a direct bolt-in, with no mods required (and made in the USA by Americans)

Re: need a new radiator
I think I paid 365.00 tax in for the re-core. The other reason for returning it was the made in china thing. At the end of the day I retained my origial rad, and supported my local economy, but if I am ever looking at replacing my rad, I will definitely consider RnD.

Re: need a new radiator
I'm assuming this isn't your daily driver..
You could send it off to get rebuilt, or there might even be a place where you live. Same look and placement.. better core. Exact fit. Since frame offing my '64 C10 and diving into my '57 Cadillac.. I've realized if you have a good part.. if you can modify it to make it better.. it a. still fits.. and b. sometimes is a lot cheaper and saves headaches. My .02 . Good Luck! Alex EDIT - I see you did the re-core idea. My bad for posting in a completed thread. Last edited by Arekusu; 08-06-2014 at 11:19 AM. Reason: read whole thread.. |

There is a really short driving season in Chicago, so 3 to 6 weeks is out. I ordered one from classic industries because it was in stock and they are listed as a distributor on the website for US Radiator. 4 days and 420$ with a promo code at my door. Very nice copper/brass Radiator. I did have my heater core rebuilt but the radiator was a repro anyway and I wanted a new one.

Re: need a new radiator
Is it a 3 core? I like the radiator support mount style like you ordered, plus we both have the steel shrouds which fit over them....I just don't like the center mount for the upper radiator hose.

Re: need a new radiator
Its a 4 row core, I haven't put the barrel shroud on yet, I want to figure out how to move more air across it, I was thinking of mounting this electric fan shroud underneath it and painting it black and maybe a flex fan in it to.
