Rear Fender Screws
Hi, my 49 AD had screws with standard head as opposed to clutch. Which is used on the original rear fenders for the 49 ADs?

Mine had carriage bolts in them, but not sure if they were original.

From what I have read online, which means take it for what it's worth, Chevy's usually had clutch head screws, most GMC's had Philips head screws although some GMC's were built in Chevy factory's and had clutch head screws. Both my 47 Chevy Panel and 50 Chev 3100 had clutch head everywhere and my GMC Suburban and a 51 GMC that I used to have had Philips head screws. This wasn't just for the beds it was through out the whole trucks.

Unless you are shooting for a 100% ash original restoration 5/16x3/4 or 1 round head machine screws are available at the bolt houses but the head is slightly smaller than the stock heads.

i bought stainlees truss head bolts from boltdepot.com
truss head bolts have the big head like the original clutch head fender bolts i bought all of my ss bolts from boltdepot.com boxes of 100 bedwood bolts were a lot less than the 66 bolt kits from vendors i used the ss phillips truss head screws for the exposed bolts on the steps and spare tire carrier truss head bolts this is the only picture that i could find that showed the truss head bolts in truk
