fuel gauge question

i think I've asked this before, but is there a way to make this auto meter fuel gauge work without changing out the sending unit??? just seems like huge pain in the butt to do and has to be another way to make it work

Re: fuel gauge question

find the output range on the sender, and the input range on the gauge. I've used resistors to make aftermarket gauges work with the 70's sending unit.

Re: fuel gauge question

I wish I could get my stock one to work. I have anxiety about running out of gas...I don't even know how much gas is in it now

Re: fuel gauge question

according to brw3, it seems like a easy fix, trying to find resistors in town here, i actually ran out of gas a while back, thought my fuel pump went out cause i couldn't hear it over the busy highway....

Re: fuel gauge question

Shows speed, rpm, water temp, volts, load, throttle input, oil temp(but no oil pressure which is weird), has fuel level display but its not working on mine... even has 0-60, 1/4 mile time, horsepower and torque display too

Re: fuel gauge question

If you search "fuel gauge resistor" you'll get a few threads on it. IIRC, a 45ohm resistor gets the oldschool gauge to work with the later sending units.

Re: fuel gauge question

So been crazy busy with work, anyone know the ohms on the autometer fuel gauge and the stock sending unit on my 84? Got a 87 sending unit if it matters
