Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
Forty-Four Grand? As the owner of three Squarebody shortbeds I'm always interested to see if these trucks are beginning to bring more money. Here's a freak example I thought you guys would get a kick out of. Of course bear in mind the BJ description says rare, rare, rare!

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
Remember that is $44,000.00 Plus the 10% buyers fee, so that adds up to $48,400.00 to take that truck home. Also add a 10% fee from the seller so the auctioneer got $8,800.00 to sell it.

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
Nice truck, but $44,000.00 nice? I guess if you want it bad enough it is. My stepfather had a 77 with the 454 in it. His had the gauge package and AC but that's it for the luxury items. I remember taking it out one night when they were gone for a long weekend and burning the tire down to the cords. That's a long story in it's self.

It looks to me as if it is a SOLD truck, according to the description

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
I'd be curious just how many miles (and hours) are actually on the engine. The description says it was "seldom" driven, I'm wondering exactly how much that is.

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
Well I'm going to assume it had less than 10,000 on it if that. For a truck that clean and the originality factor while the price is steep I could see it in this day and age of owning those one and only vehicles catching the prices they are. Essentially someone paid 44k for a brand new 1976 chevy or as close as you can get. Try and restore one that nice for that much(assuming you pay someone else to do your work).

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
The guy that we bought our truck easily had that much in receipts from a relatively conservative build.
It would be nice to see the day that resale could come close to actual costs, or at least less depreciation on the build costs...let alone an original one. Also, how many new trucks are over $50k these days and not nearly as interesting

I know how much I've spent on my pile. And its not nearly that nice.
Only difference, I didn't spend it all at once...

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
Well being a big block, circle headlight, and original. Its about as desirable as these trucks get. I would almost say the holy grail. Yes it's a long bed but it looks so stupidly clean you could eat off it.
With the way I've seen then priced in my area and the way the prices of these things continuing to climb it's not entirely out of the question for a rarity like this to fetch a price like that. Would I pay that much? No do auctions overprice things? yea. But this truck also just raised the value of your truck at the same time. |

Negatives aside, it's a heck of a nice truck.

That is one beautiful truck. Good call on the hood! It is incorrect- and missing inulation that should still be nive on a low-mile truck. Looks like the story doesn't match.

Ah, the good ol' "old lady only drove it to church on Easter Sunday" bit. I wonder how many times the folks at Barrett-Jackson have successfully used that line.

Re: Yikes! $44,000.00 longbed Squarebody
I bet within six months, that factory motor was sold on ebay, the factory wheels/tires/hubcaps were in the trash, and most of the suspension parts were in the recycling dumpster. When he was done with it, he sold it to some twenty-something that wrecked it before he owned it a year.
I sensed a disturbance in the force. |
